Saylor

"You said what?" Maisie asked, cackling with laughter.
"Shut it, please," Saylor groaned, massaging her temples. "I was really fucking nervous,"
"That was so main character of you though," Maisie gushed, before taking a deep breath. "No, this is Florida," she said dramatically, mocking how she imagined Saylor would've said it. Daniel snickered.
"I panicked, okay?" she had been so close to kissing Audrey in those moments that she just chose to be petty.

If she could go back and say something different, she would. Something like "I want you to shut up and kiss me," or maybe "I accidentally order your Starbucks order sometimes because I panic," or "I quote your favourite movie when I'm drunk," or... actually never mind. Any of those would've embarrassed her just as much as what she'd landed on. Maybe she was just shit with confrontation.

She was shit at talking. Specifically talking to Audrey.

"Morning Saylor," Audrey said, smiling a little too happily.
"M-morning, Audrey," Saylor replied. "Where are the others?" she looked around the empty studio, her eyes landing on Audrey's skin tight shirt. She shivered involuntarily.
"There was a crash somewhere on the highway and everywhere is backed up," Audrey paused. "So I'd say they won't be here for awhile,"

And then it was quiet. Audrey fiddled with her camera angles and Saylor twirled her hair. The tension was so thick Saylor felt her cheeks flushing. Every time Audrey moved she'd flinch, in a good way.
"Jeez, that crash must've been a bad one..." Saylor said, trying to make conversation. Audrey only hummed in agreement. So Saylor tried again, "About last night-"

"Saylor," Audrey sighed. "If you don't want to talk then we don't have to,"
"What do you mean?"
"I'm fine with moving on,"
"What?" she paused. "You invited me over last night to try and either get me to quit my job, or to get me back, you tell me,"
"I don't know, Say,"
"Why do you switch up so fast?" the volume in Saylor's voice was rising. "Like, when I got here you were snooty and sassy," she breathed deeply. "And now you're all: 'I'm the victim poor little me trying to make up!'"

Audrey flinched.
"I am not switching up," she hissed. "I'm trying to make things right between us so I can go to work feeling safe,"
"Oh don't do that, please,"
"No, I didn't mean it like that, I'm sorry,"
"No!" Saylor felt tears spring to her eyes. Why did good tension and pent up feelings always turn to rage between them? "I don't hate you, I don't want to hurt you, there's no reason for you to feel unsafe,"

And then it was quiet again.
"I'm sorry, Say, I really didn't mean it like that," Audrey breathed. "You make me feel things that I don't know how to deal with,"

Saylor felt herself getting hotter, until she was literally sweating. It was like being in a stupid dream, the kind where you say stupid things and make stupid mistakes, then you wake up shivering and anxious. Unfortunately, there was no waking up from this, only waking up tomorrow, and she'd deal with her regrets then.

She took a few steps closer across the linoleum floor, until she was mere centimetres away from Audrey.
"Please kiss me, Aud,"
