The Day Before the Stage

The day after the baseball match was supposed to be my day to chill—just me, my bed, and some binge-worthy shows. But Adri had other ideas, as usual. The concert was tomorrow, and when it came to anything involving Jade Kason, her energy levels hit the roof.

My phone buzzed on the nightstand for the third time that morning. I groaned, rolling over to see Adri's name on the screen, paired with an explosion emoji.

Adri: Kat! Shopping today! I need the perfect outfit for tomorrow, and you do too. Pick you up in 20!

I stared at the text, debating whether I could ghost her just this once. But I knew better. Adri wasn't the type to take no for an answer. Resigned, I threw off the covers and shuffled to the bathroom. Her excitement was contagious anyway, and let's be real—I did need something decent for the concert. Front-row tickets weren't meant for faded jeans and old sneakers.

Exactly twenty minutes later, I was ready, and Adri's car horn blared from the driveway. She grinned at me from the driver's seat, her fingers drumming on the wheel.

"Shopping, here we come!" she sang as I climbed in. "Can you believe it? Tomorrow, we'll be breathing the same air as Jade Kason. I mean, front row, Kat! Front. Row."

Her enthusiasm was impossible to ignore, and I found myself laughing. "Yeah, I can't believe it. Though I think you're more excited about the outfit hunt than the concert."

"Excuse me," she said, feigning offense. "This is serious business. Jade deserves fans who dress like stars."

The city center was buzzing when we arrived, and Adri wasted no time diving into the racks at the trendiest boutiques. She had a knack for finding pieces that made her look effortlessly chic, but today she was on a mission.

"How about this?" she asked, holding up a sparkly crop top.

"Perfect for the concert," I said, knowing she was already sold on it.

"What about you?" she asked, eyeing me critically.

I held up a sleek off-the-shoulder top paired with high-waisted jeans. "Simple but cute, right?"

Adri raised an eyebrow, smirking. "Kat, we're not going to the library. You need to shine."

"This is my version of shining," I replied, rolling my eyes. "I'm not competing with you."

Adri twirled dramatically, the sparkly top catching the light. "No competition needed. We're both gonna look amazing. Though you might wanna add some glitter."

"Right, because glitter is so me," I joked, earning a laugh from her.

After what felt like hours, we headed to the checkout, Adri's arms overflowing with bags. But she wasn't done. "Okay, hair salon next. I need a trim before tomorrow."

I tagged along, scrolling through my phone as Adri got her hair styled into layered bangs. She inspected the final look in the mirror, running her fingers through the fresh cut.

"You know," I teased, "Jade once said in an interview that he likes girls with long hair. Shame yours is only medium now."

Adri turned to me with a mock gasp. "First of all, Jade loves his fans for their hearts, not their hair. Second, my hair's still fabulous."

"Fair point," I said, laughing. "And it does look great."

We left the salon and grabbed a quick lunch at a cozy café. Over sandwiches and iced lattes, Adri couldn't stop talking about the concert, listing songs she hoped Jade would perform.

"If he doesn't sing Echoes in the Dark, I might throw something," she said, stabbing her fork into her salad for emphasis.

"He'll sing it," I assured her. "He knows his fans would riot if he didn't."

Lunch flew by, and soon we were heading to a pop-up shop selling Jade Kason merch. The place was packed, fans buzzing with pre-concert excitement. Adri darted straight for the lightsticks, holding up the new limited-edition version with stars in her eyes.

"Look at this!" she exclaimed, grabbing one and adding it to her growing pile of merch. Hoodies, pins, posters—she wanted it all.

Even I couldn't resist picking out a sleek concert tee. "You're turning me into a superfan," I said, holding up the shirt.

Adri grinned. "You're welcome."

By the time we left the store, our arms were loaded with bags, and Adri was practically glowing. "We are so ready for tomorrow," she declared as we walked back to her car.

Her excitement was rubbing off on me, and I couldn't help but smile. "I can't believe it's actually happening. It feels unreal."

We made one last stop at a coffee shop, deciding to wind down before heading home. The cozy corner table was the perfect spot to rest our feet and sip our drinks.

"Tomorrow's going to be perfect," Adri said, stirring her iced coffee. "I just know it."

I nodded, feeling the anticipation build. "It's going to be unforgettable."

We spent the next hour talking about everything and nothing, our conversation flowing easily as it always did. Adri was the kind of friend who brought color to my life, always pushing me to step out of my comfort zone.

As the evening settled in, she dropped me off at home, and I waved goodbye, my heart buzzing with excitement. Tomorrow was going to be incredible. A Jade Kason concert, front-row seats, and my best friend by my side—it didn't get better than that.
