I was always the one to be treated as an outcast

I was always the one to be treated as an outcast. My childhood, my adulthood. It started with my childhood, my family being weird to me.

I was the only one with a different father, my mother married to my father. While my siblings father? Absent. They resented me for that like it was my fault, I caused it.

My father tried to be a father to them as well. You would've thought they would be grateful for some kind of father figure— wrong. They always ran around like they didn't have anyone at all.

It just wasn't enough, claiming i got special treatment because I shared his blood. Whole time, we got treated the same. People picked on me for my skin, my hair texture, my height, my weight. I can honestly say that's the only time my siblings came to my defense.

I guess it meant something. Something was better than nothing. Right?

My mother would give me encouraging notes every morning, debunking anything my siblings and anyone else said to me. If it was nobody, my mother and father always made me feel loved.

I had minimal friends as well. I can count on one hand how many friends I had. Literally two friends, not including the person I was dating. The two friends? Was Onika and Robyn. We were like the little trio.

My trio changed when I met Lauren and Beyoncé a few years ago when they first started working here. Then, I automatically met Michelle.

They really became my girls.

I've been working for Onika I since she started her company. I was there for the planning, the restless nights, promoting. She asked me the role I wanted and gave it to me. I didn't want a heavy set role, I wanted something simple. I was apart of her financial team.

I kept track of the shipments, the talents, how much she was bringing in from all of her endeavors, how much she was putting out for her talents.

Everyone thinks we have the same pay rate but we indeed don't, I have seniority.

I like to keep myself tucked away in the corner, assuming nobody wanted to interact, so I made it simple for myself and everyone else.

"Kellyyy." Kehlani sung as she walked into my office.

"Are you.. insane?" I quickly got up as I looked out my office door before closing it.

"What?"

"Why are you here?"

"I came to see my best friend?" She placed a latte on my desk. She called me her best friend, meaning she wanted something. We were close, but we never addressed each other as such.
