Ethan had spent weeks preparing for the inevitable confrontation. The weight of Jessica's infidelity, the deteriorating family dynamic, and his newfound purpose fueled his resolve. His promotion to Chief Operations Officer had granted him the leverage he needed, not just in his career, but also in his personal life. He'd consulted with Claire regularly, ensuring that every step was calculated and precise.

Tonight was the night. The day of reckoning had arrived.

Jessica came home late, again, smelling faintly of expensive perfume that wasn't her own. Ethan had become numb to the signs of her betrayal—except tonight, that numbness was replaced with cold determination.

"Jessica, we need to talk," Ethan said calmly as she entered the living room.

Jessica looked startled, her eyes flicking toward him. "Can this wait? I'm exhausted."

"No, it can't." Ethan's tone was firm. He stood up, walking toward her with a folder in his hand. "I know about the affair."

Jessica froze, her face turning pale. She opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out.

"I've known for a while now," Ethan continued. "The late nights, the secrecy, the lies. I kept quiet because I wanted to make sure I had everything in place before confronting you. And now, I do."

Jessica's eyes widened with panic. "Ethan, I can explain—"

"There's nothing to explain," Ethan interrupted, his voice cold. "It's over, Jessica. I've already filed for divorce. And I'll be fighting for custody of Lily."

Jessica's shock turned to anger. "You can't do that! You're the one who's never home. You're always busy with your career, and now you want to take Lily from me?"

"I might have been distant, but I've never betrayed this family," Ethan said, his voice rising. "You've done that. You've alienated Lily, favoured Emma, and destroyed what little was left of this marriage. I'm done."

Jessica stared at him, fury blazing in her eyes. "You think you're going to win this, don't you? That you're the perfect father now?"

Ethan met her gaze with steely determination. "I'm going to do whatever it takes to protect Lily. She deserves better than this."

The conversation ended with a tense silence. Jessica stormed off to the bedroom, slamming the door behind her. Ethan stood alone in the living room, his heart heavy but resolute. The battle had begun, and he wasn't going to back down.
