1989's POV

"It's Saturday!" I screamed, burying my face in the pillow as my mom rushed into my room.

"I know, honey, but we're going to a charity event tonight and you need a new dress, you can't wear the ones from last event" she replied with a soft voice, opening the curtains and letting the daylight in.

"Do I have to go there?" I asked, yawning.

"No, but I'm sure that you won't be bored, your friend is going to be there" my mom smiled broadly and I sat up.

"What friend?" I stretched lazily, still sleepy.

"The Haze's daughter, such a lovely girl" she said smiling while checking something on her phone. I blinked rapidly a few times trying to process the information.

OH MY GOD?! OH MY GOD!

"Midnights will be there?!" I shouted, immediately jumping out of bed, and my mother looked at me, slightly surprised by my reaction.

"I saw that you've been getting along lately, you don't like her?" she asked, raising an eyebrow and examining my face. Oh lord no!

"No! I mean she's an amazing... um...friend" I felt the blood rush to my cheeks and quickly turned my head, looking out the window.

"Wonderful! Come downstairs when you're ready" my mom smiled at me excitedly and left my room closing the door behind her.

The charity event was a large ball organized every year in New York. When I was younger I almost always went there with my parents, but in recent years I've found excuses and avoided this ball like the plague. I didn't like all the entourage and splendor, I always felt overwhelmed and had nothing to talk to people about.

Conversation with adults there consisted of them expanding on various topics about politics or something serious and me just nodding and pretending to understand something. My peers, however, were usually spoiled kids with no respect for others. That's why I stopped coming there. And it looks like I've missed a lot.

Midnights will be there. Oh my lord. I felt a smile creep onto my face at the mere thought of her. This is starting to get out of control, I need to get a grip on myself.

I quickly got dressed, did my makeup and ran down the stairs almost tripping on the last step. I really need to stop getting so excited.

"I'm ready! Let's go!" I announced with a smile, and my mom looked at me shaking her head and laughing.

"You wanted to kill me a moment ago when I woke you up!"

"You said shopping and the conversation was completely different" I said jokingly and my mom laughed even harder.

"I can't belive that this convinced you" she replied bustling around the kitchen and I smiled. Well she was right, that wasn't the real reason that convinced me.

Our shopping took longer than planned but I had a really great time with my mom. We laughed a lot and talked about everything. The dress I chose was maroon, reached to the floor and was very elegant but simple at the same time, like from a 90's movie.

I wasn't sure if such dark colors suited me, but my mom was enchanted by the way I looked in it so I trusted her. The day passed quickly and before I knew it I had to get ready.

I curled my hair and styled it to give it volume. I applied a tiny amount of blush to my cheeks, knowing I wouldn't need it, to be totally red  anyway. I highlighted my lips with crimson lipstick and my eyes with black mascara. I looked at myself in the mirror and decided I looked pretty good. I adorned my neck with a pearl necklace that I once received from my grandmother and put on earrings to match the set.
