Drew ran into the bathroom for what felt like the thousandth time that week, doubling over and coughing up more petals. This time, the petals were larger and thicker, and there was more blood than ever. He looked down at his shaky hand with horror in his hands when he heard coughing coming from the sink. He tilted his head slightly and walked further into the bathroom, only to find Jake doubled over the sink.

Jake was doubled over, coughing his lungs out into the sink, petals and blood splattering the porcelain. He coughed and wheezed, tears running down his face, his eyes red from the struggle to breathe. He didn't notice Drew at first, his mind preoccupied with the pain in his chest and the petals clogging his throat.

Drew was frozen in shock, watching his best friend go through the same hell he was. In fact, Jake looked like he was in worse condition. His petals are larger and torn up and completely blood stained, and his face is tear stained and pale as a sheet. Drews mind was racing, a thousand thoughts rushing through it all at once, but the one that kept repeating was "No. This can't be happening. Not to him too."  He took a step forward, finally finding the courage to speak up, even if it was shaky and quiet. "...J-Jake..."

Jake froze at the sound of the familiar voice, eyes snapping up to the other person in the room. They widened even more when he saw who it was. He was about to say something, but another coughing fit interrupted him, this one more intense than the others. He doubled over again, his body shuddering with each cough. He clutched at the edge of the sink, trying to hold himself up, but his knees were shaking too much.

Drew rushed over to him, his mind still spinning from the revelation. He placed a hand on Jake's back, trying to provide support as Jake continued to cough. It felt surreal, seeing Jake go through the same thing he had been secretly suffering through, and it sent a stab of guilt through Drew's chest.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Jake's coughing subsided. He stood there, gasping for air, his body trembling from the effort. He slowly raised his head, his eyes meeting Drews. They were filled with pain and fear, and tears continued to stream down his face. He tried to speak but only managed a choked sob.

Drew looked at him and felt the familiar feeling of the petals rising in his throat, but he quickly swallowed them back down and pulled Jake into a tight embrace. He gently caressed his back, trying to keep his own emotions and pain at bay. "Hey, h-hey... you're a-alright.." He says, though he was scared for him. He knew if he doesn't confess soon, the disease becomes deadly. And he didn't know how long Jake has had this.

Jake leaned into Drew's embrace, his body shaking with each ragged breath. He clenched his fists into the fabric of Drew's shirt, tears still streaming down his face as he buried his face in his shoulder. He tried to speak again, but only a broken sob came out, followed by a few more coughs, more blood staining his lips.

Drew held him tighter, trying to comfort him as much as possible. He kept him in his arms for a few moments, his heart aching as he feels Jake's body tremble with each cough and sob. He pulled away just enough to look at him after a few moments. "Hey, l-look at me..." He says, trying to suppress a cough himself. "Y-you know what H-hanahaki is, r-right?"

Jake slowly lifted his head, his eyes red-rimmed and tear filled. He looked up at Drew, and despite the pain and fear he was going through, he nodded ever so slightly. He knew exactly what Hanahaki was, and the thought of what that implied made him shudder.

Drew's grip on Jake's shoulders tighten a bit. "Jake.. w-who are you in l-love with??"

Jake's face paled even more at the question, his eyes widening. He tensed up, suddenly looking away from Drew, his hands shaking. It was as if the very thought of who he was in love with was too painful to even admit. He opened his mouth to speak but only managed a choked sob, tears streaming down his face once again.
