At present..
Author's pov:
Vaishnavi felt the weight of his presence thick in the air. His back had been turned when she called his name but now, facing her, his expression was as unyielding as she remembered. The years had added sharpness to his features, the military uniform amplifying the intimidating aura he carried so effortlessly.
For a moment, she was speechless, the memories of her school days rushing back—when she'd admired him from afar, when he'd been just as distant but less untouchable. Now, though, there was a wall between them. Strong. Unbreakable.
Vaishnavi (breaking the silence, her voice slightly strained):
"I didn't expect it to be you."Krrish's eyes didn't waver, cold and composed.
Krrish (a short nod):
"Neither did I."There was no trace of surprise in his voice, only a calm acknowledgment, as though they hadn't once shared corridors or brief glances in passing. As if this was the first time they'd ever crossed paths. Vaishnavi shifted, trying to find her footing in his stillness.
She tried to relax, but his presence was commanding, like he could control the entire space around him without saying a word. She wasn't sure how to fill the void between them so she sat down in the seat situated in front of him across the table.
Vaishnavi (light, her smile faltering):
"So... Special Forces? That's... impressive."He nodded once, his gaze unwavering. No elaboration, no small talk, just the bare truth.
Krrish:
"It is what it is."Vaishnavi bit her lip, not sure what to make of his brevity. It felt like every word from him was carefully measured, revealing nothing beyond necessity. But then again, that had always been Krrish. A fortress of silence.
Vaishnavi:
"I mean, I knew you'd do something like this... but still, seeing you here now..." (her voice trails off)Krrish (cold, his eyes narrowing slightly):
"And you?"Vaishnavi:
"l am a journalist."Vaishnavi (with a small sigh):
" Guess we both ended up where we were supposed to."Krrish's gaze flickered, his jaw tightening slightly as if there was more he wanted to say but refused to.
Krrish (quietly, almost detached):
"Supposed to."The weight of his words hung between them, and Vaishnavi felt a strange tension pulling at her. His indifference was almost deliberate, like he was trying to keep her at a distance—just as he had done years ago. But she couldn't help but be drawn to the mystery of him, the coldness that seemed to hide something deeper.
Vaishnavi (softly, trying to break the tension):
"Do you ever regret it? The path you chose?"Krrish's eyes darkened slightly, but his face remained impassive.
Krrish (without hesitation):
"No."She swallowed, feeling a lump form in her throat. There was no room for vulnerability with him, no space for the kind of openness she had hoped for, and yet, something about his certainty made her even more curious. His words were laced with an edge, a warning. This wasn't just a conversation about careers; there was something much deeper simmering beneath the surface, something Krrish wasn't going to let her touch. Not easily.

Just as the tension between them seemed to thicken, Vaishnavi's phone buzzed on the table, cutting through the silence like a sharp blade. She glanced at the screen, her heart immediately sinking when she saw her father's name flashing across.
