the next morning, luna woke up with a dull ache in her head, the events of last night still swirling in her mind. she tried to shake it off, reminding herself that it was all just part of the job. a role. something she had to play convincingly, and nothing more.

but as she scrolled through her phone, checking the headlines and photos from the gala, she couldn't help but feel a little uneasy. the pictures showed her and nick looking every bit the perfect hollywood couple—smiling, holding hands, him whispering something in her ear as she laughed. it was a little surreal, seeing herself like that. they'd sold it well.

too well.

her phone buzzed, snapping her out of her thoughts. it was a text from nick.

nicholas: morning, superstar. you up?

luna hesitated for a moment before typing back.

luna: yeah, just waking up. what's up?

almost immediately, her phone pinged with his reply.

nicholas: just thinking about you.

her heart did a weird flip, and she frowned at the screen. was he... flirting? or just being friendly? she couldn't tell. it was probably nothing. just nick being nick.

before she could overthink it, another text popped up.

nicholas: how about we grab lunch? something low-key, just the two of us.

luna bit her lip, feeling that familiar sense of confusion bubble up again. she was supposed to be keeping her distance, staying professional, but nick seemed to have no trouble blending their "fake" relationship with real-life hangouts.

luna: sure. where?

nicholas: i know a great little spot by the beach. i'll pick you up in an hour?

luna agreed, though her stomach fluttered with nerves as she put down her phone and got ready. she kept telling herself this was just a casual lunch—nothing more. but when she opened the door to find nick standing there, looking effortlessly handsome in a casual shirt and sunglasses, her breath caught in her throat.
