-luna carpenterluna sat on her couch that night, legs tucked under her as she stared at her phone, nick's last text lighting up the screen. it wasn't anything special—just a simple "goodnight, beautiful" with a winking emoji—but it was enough to make her stomach twist into knots. she knew he was teasing her, but there was something more behind his words. something she couldn't shake.
"ugh," she groaned, tossing her phone onto the couch beside her. this whole situation was getting way too complicated. they were supposed to be fake dating—just two people playing a part. but the way nick was acting lately, the way he flirted with her, it didn't feel fake anymore. and the worst part was, she wasn't sure she hated it.
her phone buzzed again, and luna grabbed it, half-expecting it to be nick. instead, it was olivia.
livia: spill. how's it going with mr. heartthrob?
luna sighed, shaking her head. olivia and ivory had been relentless ever since the fake relationship started, always asking for updates and trying to pry into her feelings.
luna: it's going... fine.
livia: fine? really? you're fake dating nicholas chavez, and all you can say is fine?
luna: it's complicated.
livia: complicated? girl, we need details. asap.
before luna could reply, her phone started ringing. she sighed and answered, olivia's voice filling the room before she even had a chance to say hello.
"complicated? what do you mean, complicated?" olivia demanded, her tone a mix of excitement and concern.
luna flopped back against the cushions. "he's just... confusing. one minute he's flirting, and the next he's acting like it's all just part of the plan. i don't know how to take him."
"well, duh," olivia said, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "he's nick chavez. the guy flirts with everyone. but you're different, luna. you guys actually have chemistry."
"yeah, well, it's all fake," luna replied, though the words felt hollow even to her.
"is it though?" olivia asked, her voice softer now. "because from where i'm standing, it doesn't sound fake."
