Lina was taken to a small examination room, the sterile smell of antiseptic filling the air. The doctor entered, his expression serious as he examined her. "We need to do some x-rays to check for any internal injuries."Lina nodded, too exhausted to protest. She sat quietly, trying to keep her breathing steady as the doctor returned after a few minutes.
"Lina, we've found something," he said, glancing at the chart in his hand. "You have a fractured rib on your left side. It explains the pain you're feeling."
At that moment, Mia and Grayson burst into the room, their faces a mix of concern and disbelief. "Lina!" Mia cried, rushing to her side. Her eyes filled with tears as she took in the bruises covering Lina's face. "Oh my God... what happened?"
Lina looked down, ashamed. "I... I fell."
Grayson stepped forward, his jaw clenched. "You fell? This isn't just a simple fall, Lina. You look like you've been through a war."
The doctor, sensing the rising tension, tried to calm them down. "She's going to need rest and some pain medication."
Leon stood, his fists balled at his sides. "This isn't okay. How could someone do this to my sister?" His voice trembled with anger.
"Leon," Lina whispered, reaching for him. "It's fine. Really. I'll be okay."
"No, it's not fine!" he shouted, the tension in the room palpable. "You're not going back there. We need to do something."
Mia stepped forward, her voice rising as she added, "We can't let her go back to that house! It's not safe for her!"
Grayson crossed his arms, looking from Lina to Leon, his expression serious. "We have to figure this out. We can't just let her stay with her mother."
Lina felt overwhelmed by their concern, but also a warmth at the realization that she was not alone. "I don't want to be a burden," she said softly, tears welling up again.
"Burden? You're our sister! We care about you!" Leon replied fiercely, his protective instincts on high alert. "We'll figure this out, but you have to promise me you won't go back to that house, not after what she's done."
As tears spilled down her cheeks, Lina closed her eyes and whispered a prayer, reaching out to Allah in her heart. "Ya Allah, please guide me through this pain. I feel lost and scared. Help me find the strength to escape this life. I trust in You, even when everything feels hopeless."
The sincerity of her prayer hung in the air, a stark contrast to the chaotic emotions surrounding her. She opened her eyes, her gaze steady on Leon. "I don't want to hurt her. She's still my mother, despite everything."
Leon's expression softened, but his resolve didn't waver. "Lina, she doesn't care about you. You deserve to be safe, to be happy. I won't let you be hurt anymore."
Grayson nodded, his voice calming but firm. "We'll find a way to protect you. You're not alone in this fight."
Mia wiped her tears, stepping closer to Lina. "We're family, Lina. We'll do whatever it takes to keep you safe."
Lina felt the warmth of their words wash over her, slowly replacing the chill of fear and despair. Maybe, just maybe, she wouldn't have to face this alone. But as much as she wanted to believe that, the thought of returning home tonight still loomed heavy in her heart.
As they talked, the doctor returned with a nurse, who carried medication. "Lina, I need you to take this for the pain," he instructed gently.
She accepted the pills, grateful for the small reprieve from the physical pain, but the emotional pain was harder to quell. She swallowed them down, feeling the weight of her friends' and brothers' eyes on her.
"Can we sit with you?" Mia asked, her voice small.
"Of course," Lina replied, a weak smile breaking through the sadness.
As they settled in, the laughter and lightness filled the room. Grayson made a joke that had them all chuckling, and for a brief moment, Lina felt a glimmer of joy.
But as the laughter faded, Lina's thoughts turned back to her mother. She would have to confront her again. She needed to gather the courage to face the woman who had caused her so much pain.
In that moment, she whispered another prayer. "Oh Allah, grant me the strength to face my fears. Show me the path to freedom, to hope. I trust in Your plan for me."
With the support of her brothers and Mia, she felt a flicker of determination. She wasn't just holding on to hope; she was ready to fight for it.
