Lina sat cross-legged on the living room floor, a gaming controller in hand, her concentration fixated on the screen in front of her. Leon lounged beside her on the couch, his brows furrowed in concentration as he battled it out in a virtual world. The cheerful sounds of the game filled the air, punctuated by occasional laughter and playful banter."Come on, Lina! You can't just stand there! You have to attack!" Leon exclaimed, shaking his head at her character, which was currently frozen in place.
"Shush! I'm strategizing!" Lina shot back, suppressing a grin as she finally moved her character forward, only to get knocked down moments later. "Okay, maybe I should have attacked."
Leon laughed, shaking his head. "You'll never get better if you don't take risks!"
Just then, Lina's phone buzzed, startling both of them. She glanced at the screen, noting an unknown number flashing at her. Her heart raced slightly as she picked it up, curiosity piqued.
"Who's texting you?" Leon asked, eyeing her suspiciously.
"It's an unknown number," Lina replied, hesitating before opening the message. She bit her lip as she read it, her expression softening into a smile.
Hey, Lina! It's Blake. Just wanted to check in and see how you're feeling today. Hope you're doing better!
Lina felt a warmth spread through her chest as she read his message. He had been kind to her, and the fact that he was reaching out made her heart flutter a little.
She quickly typed back, her fingers flying over the screen.
Hey, Blake! I'm feeling much better, thank you! Just taking it day by day. How about you?
Leon glanced over, narrowing his eyes as he noticed her smile. "What's so interesting?"
"Just a message from Blake," she said, trying to keep her tone casual, but the giddiness was hard to conceal.
Leon's eyebrows shot up. "Oh, Blake! The guy from the hospital? You've been chatting, huh?"
Lina nodded, a little flustered. "Yeah, he just wanted to check on me."
"Uh-huh," Leon replied, a teasing smirk forming on his lips. "Sounds like someone's got a crush."
"Shut up!" Lina laughed, her cheeks warming as she swatted at him playfully. She returned her attention to her phone, a giddy feeling bubbling inside her as she awaited Blake's response.
After a moment, her phone buzzed again.
I'm glad to hear that! It was nice meeting you. I really appreciated our conversation. If you ever need anything or just want to chat, feel free to reach out!
Lina's heart fluttered at the warmth in his words. It reminded her of how grateful she felt towards him for being there when she needed someone the most. She typed back quickly, trying to keep it friendly but sincere.
Thanks again for everything, Blake. Your help meant a lot to me!
Just as she sent the message, Leon nudged her shoulder playfully. "So, are you planning to thank him in person? Maybe a dinner date?"
"Leon!" Lina exclaimed, laughing and shaking her head. "It's not like that at all!"
Leon chuckled, leaning back against the couch with a smirk. "Just looking out for you, little sister. I know you've been through a lot."
Lina smiled, grateful for his protectiveness, but the lightness of her heart reminded her that things were slowly getting better. "I appreciate it, but I can take care of myself, you know."
"Of course you can. Just don't forget to involve us in your life updates," Leon said, his teasing tone softening into something more genuine. "We're here for you, always."
Before she could respond, her phone buzzed again. She looked down to see a new message from Blake.
I hope you don't mind me asking, but would you be open to grabbing a coffee sometime? It would be great to catch up more.
Lina's heart raced at the thought. She hesitated for a moment, then typed back:
I'd like that! Let's figure something out soon!
As she sent the message, Leon glanced over at her, an eyebrow raised. "You're definitely blushing now," he teased.
"I'm not!" Lina protested, but she could feel the heat creeping up her neck.
"Sure, sure," he said, clearly enjoying her flustered state. "Just make sure you keep your guard up, okay? You can't trust guys too easily."
"I know. But I think he's different," Lina said, her smile returning. "He seems genuinely nice."
Leon nodded but couldn't shake off the feeling of protectiveness that surged in him. "Just remember, you don't have to rush into anything. Take your time."
"I will, I promise," Lina replied, feeling grateful for his concern but also excited about this new connection.
They spent the rest of the afternoon playing video games, the laughter and competitive spirit filling the apartment. But every now and then, Lina would catch herself glancing at her phone, a small smile tugging at her lips, wondering if Blake would text again.
The day was ending on a hopeful note, a small step forward in her journey. With the support of her brothers and the spark of a new friendship, Lina felt like she was finally starting to heal, embracing the possibility of brighter days ahead.
