Lina stepped out of the café, feeling a lightness in her heart that hadn't been there in a long time. Blake's smile lingered in her mind as she walked towards the parking lot. The sun was beginning to set, casting a warm golden hue over the city, and she couldn't help but feel hopeful about what lay ahead.Just as she reached the car, her phone buzzed. It was a message from Blake: "I really enjoyed our time together. Let's do it again soon?" She smiled, her heart fluttering a little. It felt nice to have someone like him in her life, someone who understood her without needing to know every detail of her past.
"Who's making you smile like that?" Leon teased as he approached, Grayson right behind him. They had randomly stopped by the café, but the moment they saw her, their expressions turned playful.
"Just a friend," Lina replied, trying to suppress her grin.
"A friend, huh?" Grayson raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms. "This friend wouldn't happen to be a certain guy named Blake, would it?"
Leon nodded in mock seriousness. "I hope he knows how to treat my little sister. If he doesn't, he'll have to answer to us."
Lina rolled her eyes, laughing. "Relax! He's just nice, okay?"
"Just nice?" Leon echoed, feigning disbelief. "We'll see about that."
After their lighthearted banter, Leon offered to drive her home. As they settled into the car, Lina felt a comfortable silence envelop them, the kind that spoke volumes about their bond.
"So, how was your day?" Leon asked, glancing at her with genuine curiosity.
"It was great! I spent the afternoon with Blake, just talking and getting to know each other," she said, unable to hide her excitement.
Leon's eyes flickered with something that looked like concern mixed with curiosity. "And this Blake, he's not one of those guys who thinks he can take advantage of you, right? I know we just met him at the hospital, but—"
"Leon!" Lina interrupted, her tone playful. "You've made me tough enough to handle myself, you know that. Right? Besides, Blake is different. He respects my space and listens. He makes me feel...normal."
Leon nodded slowly, his protective instincts still nagging at him. "Okay, just remember, my job is to make sure you're safe and happy. So don't fall or get hurt. You're extremely clumsy."
Lina laughed, shaking her head. "I'm not that clumsy!"
But just as she said that, she tripped on the curb as they reached her apartment. Leon quickly parked the car and got out, a mix of worry and frustration on his face. "Lina!" he exclaimed, rushing over.
She looked up at him, a sheepish grin spreading across her face as she laughed at herself. "See? I told you I'm not clumsy!"
Leon rolled his eyes but couldn't help the smile that crept onto his face. He wrapped her in a gentle hug, resting his chin on her head. "Just be careful, okay? I don't want to have to carry you to the hospital again."
"I promise," she said softly, pulling back to look up at him. "Thanks for always being there for me, Leon. You're the best brother."
He ruffled her hair affectionately, his expression softening. "I'll always be here, my child. Now go inside"
With one last wave, Lina turned to head into her apartment, feeling grateful and lighter than ever. As she opened the door, she turned back, ready to say something when the unexpected happened.
The door swung shut behind her, and she froze at the sight of a figure standing in her living room—a figure she didn't recognize. The moment hung in the air, tension replacing the warmth of the day.
"Who are you?" Lina asked, her heart racing.
Just then, the figure turned, revealing a smirk that sent a chill down her spine.
"I think we have a lot to discuss, don't you?"
As Lina stood frozen in shock, a wave of uncertainty washed over her, and she couldn't shake the feeling that this was just the beginning of something much bigger than she had anticipated.
To be continued...
