In lots of ancient world civilizations there are depictions and mentions made of dragons. In ancient China there was pottery made with dragons on them, and in Mayan culture it was discovered that they worshiped them. But Jane thought if those people and really seen what she was seeing, there would have been a lot more said and made about fucking dragons. Also there would have definitely been more attempts like the Horntail Hall.
She knew that a dragon fighting ring was bad- really any animal fighting ring was bad. It almost always involved the mistreatment of said animals, and didn't allow any of the creatures to live a full life. There was almost zero excuse to have one of any kind. But standing there sneaking around seeing those badass creatures beating the shit out of each other... well she would have never admitted it to Poppy but she wished she had brought popcorn.
She tried to make up for the less than ethical thoughts she was having by participating in a fighting ring of sorts of her own. She was also beating the shit out of some poachers, which she knew didn't look as cool as the dragons but it was still enjoyable. She for sure felt like she was on the moral high ground when she knocked out group after group of animal abusers.
The biggest fight was when they were there with the caged dragon, her eggs unknowingly stored in Jane's bag. She and Poppy worked together to take everyone out, and once it was just them they turned towards the giant beast. The adrenaline coursing through Jane made it hard for her to focus enough to try to pull open the restraints that held the fire breathing monstrosity tight. She had barely begun to pull when more poachers apparated all around them.
The girls both froze, the large figures moving in towards them. Jane looked up at the dragon above them, praying that she had done enough to get it out. It took a moment, which felt like a year, but eventually the chains dropped. All the poachers turned towards the beast, and Jane casted protego around her and her friend in preparation for what was to come.
You would think watching a man getting eaten alive by a dragon would be more traumatizing, but really it wasn't. Maybe it was because the unfortunate man was probably planning to kill them anyway, but Jane didn't feel too many feelings about it.
After the fiery disintegration of the rest of the bad guys Jane quickly casted confrigo up towards the tent roof. In the game you use incendio, but she was never even able to light the hanging lights in the undercroft so she figured she wouldn't risk it. As the dragon flew away both her and Poppy were knocked to the ground by the strength of the wind coming from its beating wings. They watched amazed as it soared up into the sky and then out of view.
The tent beams started coming down around them, so they quickly got to their feet and raced their asses outta there. The adrenaline continued to course through her as they ran out and far away from the tent. This had been by far the best quest of the game, seriously the coolest experience. Maybe if this had been happening to her without her in-game knowledge she would have been scared, but she was too powerful of a main character now to worry.
Huffing and puffing they stopped far enough away that they wouldn't be caught by any other poachers. Once they caught their breath the two girls made eye contact and both broke into huge grins.
"I wouldn't mind doing that again," Jane said, her smile growing.
"Honestly, neither would I. Taking down those poachers felt amazing."
"Well we are going to have to return her egg so maybe we'll get to have some more fun another time."
"That's right-" Poppy said rubbing her chin, "She obviously didn't know the poachers had it, otherwise she wouldn't have left without it. I'll have to do some research to see if I can figure out where she is from."
