"You look awful-" Poppy said, reaching out to feel Jane's forehead. "Are you feeling sick? Do you think you're coming down with something?"

"I'm fine Pop," she replied with a grimace, removing her friend's hand from her face. "I just didn't sleep that well last night."

"Well what if you caught something while we were out yesterday-" The Hufflepuff said, still looking worried. "You know dragon pox is still a widespread epidemic."

"She doesn't have Dragon Pox, if she did she would already be green."

Natty gestured for Poppy to move away from Jane, and the girl did so obediently.

"Yeah, also don't say that too loud. What if Garreth heard you?" Jane said, taking a bite of her food. The last thing she needed was her boyfriend thinking she had come down with some major illness.

"I thought you said he wasn't going to be here this morning," Natty questioned.

"He's not, but you can never be too careful."

"Where is he?" Poppy asked, propping her elbow on the Gryffindor table.

"Hogsmeade-" Jane answered with her mouth full. She swallowed when both girls scrunched their noses at her. "Last minute Christmas shopping apparently."

"Oh that's funny," Poppy said smiling, "That's what we are going to do later today! Do you want to come with us?"

Jane shook her head. "No, I have some stuff to do before I go out later-"

"Ah yes," Natty said with a knowing look. "Your back to back adventures. Do you think that maybe you are spreading yourself a little bit thin?"

"Can't be helped-" Jane said, shoving the last of her food in her mouth. When that was gone she swiveled in her seat and then stood. "I actually need to go now, I got a note from Ominis this morning asking to meet me after breakfast."

"Ominis you say?" The Gryffindor said with an eyebrow raised. Jane didn't pick up on the look.

"Yeah, I bet he heard about mine and Poppy's adventure yesterday and wants to scold me about it. I know he means well but his lectures about not running off doing dangerous things are hard to hear. I know I'm never going to stop but he makes me want to reconsider every time."

Natty and Poppy exchanged a look, which this time Jane caught.

"What?"

"Nothing-" Poppy said quickly. "-I um, I'm just surprised that he would already know about last night. I mean I assume you told Garreth and of course Natty knows- but how would Ominis know?"

"Probably from Sebastian- oh that's right-" Jane hit her forehead in a dramatic fashion. "Sorry I forgot to tell you guys. I ran into Sebastian last night on the stairs."

"You better not think you're just going to walk away after saying something like that!" Natty said briskly. She gestured towards the bench, "take a seat."

--

Jane jogged quickly towards the dungeons, afraid that she had kept Ominis waiting too long. Natty and Poppy had sucked out every last detail they could get from her retelling of her Sebastian encounter last night. The whole conversation had lasted barely a few minutes but somehow the retelling lasted another twenty. Now she was running late and afraid that maybe she would make him thinking she wasn't coming.

An owl had delivered the blind boy's note while she was on her way early that morning sending her own letter. She had been about halfway to the owlery when it unceremoniously plopped on her head. She tried to flag the bird down so that maybe she wouldn't have to trek all the way up the tower, but it didn't listen.
