Author note: This chapter and the next will be a little bit shorter. I initially had them together but decided to chop them in two for dramatic purposes.
Also sorry that it has been a minute since I have posted. The next few chapters take place around Christmas and it felt weird sharing them before Halloween.... BUT November means its officially Christmas time so now I have no problem with it :)
I hope you enjoy!

Jane flopped down onto her bed, totally exhausted and ready to go to sleep- even though it was only 10 in the morning. She had just finished saying goodbye to Poppy, who was the last of her friends to leave for the Holiday (well besides Ominis but that wasn't until later). Most had left the previous day when their last class was done, but her Hufflepuff friend decided to stay an extra night.
It was almost like Jane had just experienced an entire Holiday in the past couple of days, all squished into smaller time slots. Poppy had wanted everyone to do as many Christmas themed activities as possible before they all (minus Jane) left for the actual holiday. Over the span of the week they exchanged gifts, sang songs, played games, told stories, drank way too much butterbeer- and Garreth even found time to make Jane swoon under some mistletoe.
It was all enjoyable, but between the partying, classes, and main character side quests Jane was ready to spend the whole break sleeping. She couldn't do that though, because unfortunately her work was not yet done. Yes she had homework she needed to do, but more importantly there was the next trial to prepare for.

"Are you feeling nervous about this one?" Ominis asked, his voice echoing slightly around the room.
Now I know what you are thinking, but no it's not like that. Jane was sprawled out on one of the luxurious couches within the spacious Slytherin common room, Ominis in an armchair next to her. They had decided since the boy was literally the ONLY Slytherin staying for the Holiday, they might as well make full use of the space.
Jane had suggested they use the Gryffindor common room, even though she knew there were at least two other kids who were also still at the school. Ominis was against it though, he said he had been there once before and he didn't like how close the walls felt.
At first she wasn't sure what he meant by that, but when she walked into the Slytherin room for the first time she thought she might see where he was coming from. As compared to the vaulted ceilings and open layout here, the Gryffindor room might seem a bit cramped. She personally thought it was more cozy but that was neither here nor there. Of course she had seen this common room before in the game, but as always it never compared to the real thing.
So on their first day they sat lazily together, not doing much other than talking. Jane brought the hoard of candy she had received from her friends as gifts for them to share, and they snacked as they conversed. At first they just talked about classes and homework, but eventually the conversation turned towards the Keepers.
"Actually I am." she sat up, turning and leaning against the back of the couch now.
"Why? After the last two I thought you would be a tad over confident, which seems to be the normal as of late."
"Hey, I'm not over confident-" she said, throwing a piece of candy at him. "I'm just the right amount of confident."
He chuckled as he picked up the fallen treat from his lap and attempted to toss it back at her. It missed by an embarrassingly large amount. Normally Jane would have thought that was funny, but there was a knot that was starting to twist in her stomach. She brought her feet up towards her, and wrapped her arms around her knees.
