"Children, it's time to leave. You must not be late." The young girl had already made her way down the many stairs. She held the handle of a large trunk in her left hand and a cage in the right. Inside the cage was a small orange cat, sleeping soundly. "Roldo- oh, it's you. Leilani, go wait in the living room, I need to speak to your brother." Her mother told her, clearly thinking that Roldolphus would be the child ready on time. This was often the way things happened, so Leilani shook off the common mistake.
"Yes, Mother, exactly what time are we expected to arrive at the station?" She asked, wanting to have an idea on when she should be prepared to see the people she so dreaded seeing.
"Ten to eleven, now go wait." The older women answered in her usual harsh tone. This was a normal occurrence, her mother's tone that is, she also rarely wore a real smile, causing her to look as if she were in a horrid mood all the time, which was probably accurate when she was around her daughter. These things didn't seem to really bother Leilani anymore, not as much as it once did.
The dark-haired girl made her way into the living room, closing the large oak doors behind her. She made sure that she didn't take a seat on the dark couch. She knew that would anger her mother, leaving the two on a bad note when the siblings would leave. Not more than a moment later, her mother and Roldolphus entered the room in silence. "I will get Zilly to aparate the two of you to the platform, I have matters to attend to. Your father and I expect perfect grades and not to hear anything disappointing. We will see you at Christmas. Don't disappoint us, especially you, Leilani, stay away from that Black boy, you know what he has done." And with that, she women left, no 'goodbye' or 'I love you', but that was normal.
"Is everything okay? Mother said she was going to speak to you." The younger asked.
"Not that it's any of your business, but yes, everything is perfectly fine." He always did that, acted tough and rude, but Leilani knew that he did truly love her even if he didn't tell her directly or show her.
"Zilly is here masters. She will now take you to the train. Please assure you have everything in your hands. And hold mine. Alright, off we go." For a second everything was black and the next, they were surrounded by students and their families, some crying, Leilani presumed they were first years, worried to leave the safe arms of their parents. She always wondered what it would feel like to have your parents hug you, truly hug you, not just the awkward side hug when you are having a painting done, but the one when your parents squeeze and like they don't want to let go and you squeeze back cause you're scared.
"Leilani, the trains leaving in a few minutes I want to be seated before the train departs." Roldolphus said, startling the girl out of her trance.
"Oh yes, of course. Thank you, Zilly. we'll see you in a couple of months." She always made sure the thank the loyal house elf, she was scared enough as it was. The two siblings made their way onto the train carrying their belongings in their hands walking in the direction of Roldolphus' normal compartment, as Leilani would usually sit with Sirius for the first three hours so they could catch up on their holidays. However, this trip would be different as Sirius had run away from his house and was disowned from the Black family. This worried Leilani greatly as she no longer knew how her friend was. She didn't really know if he was even alive. She was not the only person worried about the young boy. His younger brother Regulus had been itching to just see him. He also just wanted to know he was alive and well. Leilani and Regulus had a close relationship, they were both very similar, they wanted to get out of the tormenting homes they were kept in, but the thought of actually going through with it scared the two of them, they would have nowhere to go, and they would cause much pain to other people.
When Roldophus opened a compartment door, Leilani almost continued to walk if it weren't for the older boy placing his hand on her shoulder, telling her they had arrived. "Hi everyone, Leilani will be sitting with us for the trip." The girl shyly smiled at the familiar faces. She knew all of them, Lucius Malfoy, her mother, would have had her marry him if he wasn't already engaged to Narcissa Black, who sat next to him. Severus Snape sat across from the blonde haired boy. Next to him was Regulus, and across from him was Bellatrix Black, who Roldophus was engaged to. They were to marry as soon as they graduated. Roldolphus placed his and Leilani's trunks above the seats. He sat next to Bellatrix while Leilani sat next to Regulus.
"Hey Lani, how was your summer." The boys asked. Leilani smiled at the nickname before answering.
"It was nice, quiet, but I think that's why I enjoyed it. How are you feeling, Reg?" The girl knew not to ask about how his summer, everyone knew what happened. Instead, she opted to question him now. She was indeed worried about him as well. She knew how much he looked up to Sirius, and the situation would be hard for anyone.
"I'm alright, thank you." He replied, Leilani could see through the tight-lipped smile. She could see the pain in his eyes. She decided against saying anything to the boy. If he wanted to speak about it, he would.
Everyone had been speaking amongst themselves when Leilani decided to she was going to change into her robes and then hopefully find a quiet compartment to sit and read in for the rest of the trip, so she stood up and took down her trunk and cat cage, "Where are you going Leilani?" Roldolphus questions, know he was told to keep a close eye on his younger sister throughout the year.
"I am going to change into my robes, and then hopefully, I will find a quiet compartment to read in for the rest of the trip. Your company has been lovely." And with that, she made her way down the long corridors and into the bathrooms. She made sure to be quick as her trunk and cage didn't fit in the small room with her.
She walked out and down the corridor looking for a quiet compartment, hopefully an empty one, though she knew that it was unlikely, but she could wish. As she looked at the compartments while she walked past, she saw a head of familiar black hair, you could never mistake it. The girl couldn't help but stop, just making sure that he was okay, and from the looks of it, he was.
The group of friends were laughing amongst each other, when Remus noticed Leilani, he must have let the rest of then know cause they all turned to look at her. She quickly walked away from the group, hoping they would go back to whatever they were doing. "Leilani, Lani, come on." She heard the oh so familiar voice call out. She stopped walking and turned to face the boy. "You weren't in the compartment earlier. I thought maybe something happened, don't worry me like that." He airily laughed.
"I'm not allowed to speak to you anymore, Sirius. I was just making sure you were okay. I must go now, sorry." Leilani once again turned her back the Sirius and continued her search for the empty space.
