Unexpectedly Yours

Chapter 13

It's been a week since that conversation with Alexander, and it's been awkward. At least, to me! He acts like nothing even happened! It's like I don't exist to him! I must be way too sensitive... right?

"Ahhhhhh! I'm so annoyed!"

I throw down the sketchpad, glaring at the half-finished designs. My frustration boils over, and in a moment of weakness, I start scribbling across the lines, crushing the paper in my fist, and tearing it to pieces.

"Stupid, stupid, stupid!"

When the last shred of paper hits the floor, I collapse onto the bed, grabbing a pillow and screaming into it as if that will somehow make me feel better.

Iris's pov

We've been hearing this all day. Ever since Piper got back from Alexander's villa, she's been acting like a total mess. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what's wrong.

"She's in love"

Elise says, barely looking up from her nails. She always sounds so casual about this kind of thing. Meanwhile, Serena sits with her nose buried in a book, not a care in the world. But we all know what's happening it's not the first time.

"Ugh, she falls in love so fast"

I mutter, leaning against the door.

"I've lost count of how many times she's had a crush, only to end up heartbroken."

"But this time's different."

Serena finally lowers her book, narrowing her eyes thoughtfully.

"She's not usually this... affected. Normally, Piper gets over these crushes in a day or two. She's never been like this not since 'him.'"

I nod slowly, feeling a pit in my stomach. She's right. Piper's crushes are usually superficial, based purely on looks. But ever since she met Alexander, it's like her whole world is falling apart. How can that be possible? She barely knows the guy.

As if reading my mind, Elise shrugs.

"Some people fall in love fast. But... I'm more worried about whether she'll stay this obsessed. Alexander seems to like her too, but if 'he's' coming back... well, this is going to get messy."

"What? He's coming back?"

Serena and I exclaim in unison, my heart skipping a beat at the thought.

Elise grins, almost enjoying the drama.

"Rumor has it, yeah. Nothing's confirmed yet, but... you know how these things go."

"This is seriously starting to feel like a Wattpad story"

Serena mumbles, staring off into space. I laugh, nudging her, knowing exactly what's running through her head. That girl has the wildest imagination sometimes she swears she's living in a novel.

Before we can talk any more, the door of the house suddenly swings open. I freeze.

Standing there is a guy tall, with brown hair and striking blue eyes. He's grinning like he's just walked into the scene of a movie.

"Hey, you all planning on staring at me all day?"

he says, his voice casual, almost teasing

We just stare at him for a moment, unsure what to say. Serena, ever the quick thinker, smirks and closes her book with a snap.

"Looks like the drama just got a whole lot more interesting."
