Piper’s pov
I sat between my best friend, Iris, and my sister, Serena, in our favorite café. It was the time to relax where the homework and essays were supposed to be less. This was supposed to be our time to relax, enjoy some retail therapy, and basically do everything fun that a group of friends would do on their first day of freedom.
Keyword: supposed.
I had just finished all my homeworks. But of course, my stupid teacher just had to assign us a project at the last minute. Sure, I could’ve just shrugged it off, but no, it had to be a requirement! If I don’t complete it, there’s no way I’m moving up to my third year.
So here I am, sketching out designs in the middle of what should’ve been a carefree day.
"Can you believe that woman?! I swear, she’s the devil. Who suddenly decides that we have to design an entire outfit and find a model to wear it at the School Festival? She’s crazy!"
I vented out loud, the frustration evident in my voice. As much as we all love our teachers, we still complain sometimes this was one of those times.
Iris didn’t even glance up from her pizza as she replied sarcastically.
"Your fault for choosing to be in the fashion department in the first place."
I rolled my eyes at her comment, but deep down, I knew she had a point.
Iris Winterson, my rock solid best friend, always had something witty to say. She was pale skinned, with short, straight brown hair and sharp, dark brown eyes. Today, she wore a dark red jumpsuit that perfectly matched her confident and sassy personality. As the top makeup artist in the Beauty department, she was someone I could always rely on for the best advice, even if it came with a dose of sarcasm.
Choosing to ignore her comment, I turned my attention to my sister, Serena, to make sure she wasn’t lost in her book as usual.
Serena Henderson, the beauty with brains, was my half-sister. We shared the same father but had different mothers.
Our father was a fun loving, easygoing adventurous guy, but he had a habit of complicating life by adding new siblings to the mix. Despite his quirks, he never neglected us or made us feel left out. He loved all of his kids equally, though sometimes we couldn’t predict if there’d be a new sibling by the next day.
Serena was a force of nature in her own right. She was in the Medical Department and seemed to be involved in almost every club possible drama, music, martial arts, and the book club. She was the epitome of beauty and intelligence, with her blue green eyes, dyed blonde hair, and a red and black floral dress that highlighted her elegant yet down to earth style. Though she struggled with math initially, she had managed to conquer it, just like everything else she put her mind to. Serena was an ambivert, leaning more towards introversion. Without us, I’m sure she’d be locked away in her room all day, devouring books and getting lost in the endless world of Wattpad stories.
When I tapped her on the shoulder, she nodded, clearly not paying attention. I was just about to say something when the distinct roar of a motorcycle echoed from outside the café. I didn’t need to look to know who it was.
At the same moment, both Iris and Serena looked up, their attention drawn to the entrance.
The rider took off her helmet, revealing her flaming red hair, dyed to perfection, and intense black eyes. She was dressed in a black jacket over a white shirt, black pants, and dark white sneakers, exuding an effortless cool that turned heads the moment she walked in.
As she entered the café, the air seemed to shift, everyone momentarily captivated by her presence. She caught sight of us and smiled, a smile that could only belong to Elise, the last piece of our group.
"Hey guys"
she greeted, her voice as smooth as the confidence she radiated.
