The Battle Begins

A newborn emerged from the far tree line. Frenzied eyes searching for the tempting scent that led them to the clearing. Their searching ended as Sebastian grabbed them by the throat and threw them into the clearing. Sebastian immediately pounced, teeth bared in a challenging snarl. The newborn was a young woman of medium build and height, who snarled back in reply. Sebastian barely heard the sounds of battle surrounding him and his combatant. The pack had surprised the newborns, adding to the frenzy in the clearing.

Trying to catch him by surprise, the newborn leaped to attack, only to be met mid-air with a shadowy katana embedded in her torso. She looked down in surprise to see a shadow-like being holding the hilt of the sword. Sebastian took a breath and allowed Vadim to take over. Vadim looked at the newborn unimpressed.

“To think you thought you had the upper hand.” Vadim muttered.

He spared a second more to survey how the battle was going. Alice and Leah had paired up and were taking down newborns with ease, Carlisle and Esmè were tag teaming a set of newborn twins, it seemed. Rosalie was doing well on her own, and Emmett with Paul seemed to be having a field day. The rest of the pack were ripping off heads like they were party poppers. What worried both him and Sebastian was that Jasper couldn't be seen. Then he heard a loud crack behind him.

A group of newborns had tried to sneak up behind him. Jasper had noticed and placed himself in the lead newborn's path. Vadim looked to the ground to see that Jasper was motionless on the ground, with deep claw marks across his chest. The same claw marks that were across their body's throat. Rage filled Vadim and Sebastain as an earth shaking growl pierced the air.

The wolves and Cullens stopped since the rest of the army, apart from the small group, had been defeated. Sam, noticing that Jasper was in harm's way, quickly ran over. As soon as Jasper was out of the way, Vadim charged. The newborn, not expecting the sudden movement, was quickly thrown in the air. The rest of the group was unexpectedly dealing with the same shadow-like beings that were still holding up the newborn from earlier.

Vadim and Sebastian attacked furiously, using both of their abilities to overwhelm the newborn. To their surprise, as the fight continued, the newborn seemed to be learning their attacks and countering them. Sebastian quickly realized that the newborn was gifted. Vadim used that realization to get the newborn in a lock so that Sebastian could make eye contact. The newborn struggled not to make eye contact. Vadim, growing frustrated, brought out a shadow and had it secure the newborn's head. Once Sebastian had the gift, Vadim ripped the newborn's head off.

At the same moment, Jasper sat up, the cracks in his chest closing. Vadim, hearing Jasper's groan sped over to him, red eyes filled with worry. Jasper felt an arm surround him, and he immediately leaned into Vadim’s embrace.

“I'm alright, Darlin. How's Sebastian?” Jasper asked.
“He's worried.” Vadim replied.
“Let him take the wheel for a minute.” Jasper requested.

Red eyes faded into a bright gold as Sebastian quickly scanned Jasper for injuries. His eyes widened in concern when he saw the claw marks.

“I didn't realize they were that bad. Are you okay?” Sebastian fretted.
“I'm fine, Darlin. Nothin some rest, and a hunt can't fix.” Jasper reassured.

Sebastian nodded and rose to his full height, extending his hand out to Jasper. Once Jasper was up, the couple walked over to the bonfire of newborn remains. The pack joined the Cullens as Edward, Bella, and Seth came down from the mountain. Upon smelling Bella's blood, Sebastian quickly turned to Edward for an explanation. Edward, noticing Sebastian's glare, quickly explained,

“Bella cut herself to distract Victoria. She's gone.”
“Good, as much as I hate what had to happen, I'm glad we're all safe.” Carlisle jumped in.
