Jackie could feel that he was right on the villain's tracks, he could hear them breathing, the sound distant enough to make them about a mile away, he guessed.

He was deep in the heart of the city, and he picked up his pace, pushing himself through the air as fast as he could without breaking anything made of glass as he flew past.

The villain's breath grew louder, and now Jackie could hear his heart pounding in his chest, panicked. Jackie grinned, pushing up his mask that covered his eyes a bit, and landed on the street.

It sounded like the person he was looking for was in the alley right in front of him, and it was dark enough inside that Jackie could tell that it was a deadend. Perfect.

The night air hung heavy over Jackie as he stepped into the alley, blinking a few times until his eyes started to glow a light blue, his night vision brightening the space in front of him.

He could see the villain, pressing himself against the back wall, his heart pounding harder and harder as Jackie walked forward, until,

Snap.

Something slammed shut over Jackie's ankle, and it took him a moment to realize that this hurt. It really hurt.

Jackie stifled a scream and looked down at the bear trap, its teeth stabbing into his skin, blood staining his blue cargo pants a dark color.

The villain deadpanned, fear no longer showing in his eyes as he walked up to Jackie, staying just out of his reach.

"Well shit, I wasn't sure that that was going to work. Nice going, hero boy," he grinned, his tone so demeaning it felt like another bear trap.

Jackie growled deep in his throat and went to pry open the trap, but it wasn't budging, forcing Jackie to use more and more of his power, until the amount of force he was using would be enough to crumble a building with one punch. But it still wouldn't move.

"Fuck! Get this off of me!" He shouted, his teeth clenching together in pain as the trap tightened, its teeth grinding against his bone.

"No, but thanks for the offer!" The villain said cheerfully, stepping around Jackie and heading for the exit of the alley. "Break a leg! I'm counting on you!"

Once he was gone, Jackie finally let his legs buckle and he collapsed, landing on his knees as he gasped in pain. He turned around so he could stick his trapped leg out and sit on the floor, bending in half to get a look at what was happening.

Nothing insane was going on with the trap, Jackie really had no idea why it was impossible to open.

"Break a leg", huh? Jackie could do that, and it wasn't like his leg would take too long to grow back anyway, maybe a couple hours, tops.

He braced his other foot against the trap, and grabbed his leg under his knee.

"Fuck," he muttered, letting go of his leg to shake out his sweaty hands, despite how he was wearing gloves.

He grabbed his leg again, and started pulling. His other foot pushed hard against the trap, pushing it away while he pulled.

He bit his lip to muffle his scream as the trap started stabbing even further into his leg, stabbing and splintering into bone as it closed.

With a spurt of blood, his leg finally severed at the shin, leaving the rest of his leg still stuck in the trap. Jackie pressed his hands to his mouth, trying to keep down a gag or a scream as he shook.

Leg broken, he supposed.
