As the lift announced their floor and the metallic doors opened, Jeremy picked up Evelyn in his arms and stepped out of the lift and walked to her hotel room. After swiping the door-card, getting in the suite and locking the door behind him, he slowly walked to her bedroom. But before placing her on the bed, he took in the beauty of the girl who now slept peacefully in his arms, as if belonging there, since forever.
He surveyed her beautiful face and felt as if an angel had fallen down from the sky and was resting in his arms. Her long eye lashes resting leisurely on her pink cheeks, the perfect cut of her cheek bones, her pink and full lips, the more closely he looked, the more perfect she seemed. His eyes moved along to her neck and he noticed a little beauty spot under her left earlobe. He almost dipped down and kissed her there but stopped himself.
He placed her gently on the bed. He wanted to change her dress so that she could sleep in more peacefully but knew that it would be wrong as if taking advantage of her position and the situation.
He gently pulled the clips out of her hair, to ease her off from the tight bun and then eased off her feet from her high heeled stilettos. He pulled up the blanket over her little frame and stood back to look over her for the last time.
He switched off the lights in her room and went out in the living room, not closing her bedroom door completely. By the time he fixed himself a drink, he heard the clouds thunder and before he knew the they burst out in a huge rain attack.
He quickly fished out his cell from his coat and dialed his driver's number, but because of the rain, the signals seemed jammed as he couldn't reach him. He went to the balcony and then ran back in, regretting his decision instantly. The rain was harsh and stormy, and had made him all wet now.
He took off his coat and opened the buttons of his shirt. He decided to request a room in the hotel, as going back to the resort, seemed a really bad idea.
He called the front desk and asked the receptionist if any rooms were available.
"I'm really sorry señor, its vacation time and the hotel is packed with tourists. Making a room available at such a short notice won't be possible. I'm really sorry señor." The girl on the phone sounded tired and apologetic.
"It's okay." Jeremy replied, suddenly too tired to argue anymore.
"Will that be all sir?"
"Yes. Actually no!" He almost scared the receptionist. "I need a set of clothing, send me a bellboy."
"Umm..okay sir, I'll look in to what I can do. Have a good ni.." But before she could complete, Jeremy had banged the phone down as he heard screaming from Evelyn's room and ran towards the sound.
As he opened her door, he found that she was still in bed, her eyes tightly shut and her blanket thrown on the floor. Her hands and legs were moving and kicking as if she was struggling against something.
"NO! Don't do this!" She screamed again in her sleep. Jeremy ran to her bedside and tried holding her hands. "NO! STOP! You're hurting me, please stop." She jerked his hands away and Jeremy noticed that she was also crying in her sleep.
"Hush baby, hush! Don't cry!" Jeremy whispered lightly as he sat beside her on the bed and took her head in his lap.
"Please don't hurt me." She cried again but now in a small voice.
"I won't, I promise, and nor I'll let anybody hurt you, ever. I'm here, love." He whispered to her again, holding her arms in place while stroking her hands gently.
In no moments time, she calmed down and drifted back to her sweet sleep. Jeremy sat there, too stunned from what had just happened. Not from her nightmare but from the carefree promises he had just made to her.
He looked at the girl, now sleeping peacefully in his lap, and instantly felt an urge to protect her. But from what? What is she hiding? Or who is she hiding from?
His chain of thoughts were broken by the doorbell. He felt reluctant in leaving her alone but he looked down at his attire, which was soaking wet and knew that he had no choice but to change. He lightly got up from her bed, not to disturb her and headed out to answer the door.

Evelyn opened her eyes with a startle, she had another one of her nightmares. She covered her eyes with her arms and waited for her heart to calm down. As she returned to her normal state, she tried opening her eyes again but she felt a terrible headache. She couldn't understand the mystery behind her ache. She looked at the clock on the front wall and saw it was two in the morning. Still holding her head, she sat up in bed and suddenly felt a pinching ache in her stomach. She had an instant urgency to pee but at the same time she felt like her throat felt so dry.
She pushed away her bed cover and got out of bed. As soon as she turned towards the bathroom, she caught a glimpse of herself in the dressing mirror and with a flood of memories, she started remembering everything. The black dress, dinner, her drinking, Jeremy. Jeremy! With guilt, she realized that she must have had made a fool of herself in front of him again. She felt angry and promised herself that she'll apologize to him, as soon as they meet next.
After using the washroom, she moved out to the kitchen, to fetch herself a glass of water. As she took out a glass from the cabinet, she thought like she heard some noise from the adjoining living room. She quickly ridiculed the thought and realized it might be the sound of the rain. As she was drinking from her glass, she felt as if she had heard some strange noise again.
She took a knife from the kitchen counter and made her away towards the living room area. Not to alarm the person in the living area, she didn't switch the lights on. She held the knife tightly in both her hands and moved towards the couch. She saw a figure lying on the couch and heard sound of soft snoring, the sound that had brought her here. A burglar? Sleeping? Why would a burglar try to steal from a hotel room and then fall asleep where he's stealing?
She moved closer to the couch and nervously grabbed the knife tighter. In the midst of darkness, she didn't see the coffee table near the couch and thanks to her long flowing black dress, she tripped, dropped the knife and fell over the figure on the couch. Both of them screamed together but it was Jeremy, who realized and understood the situation first.
"Thief thief! Help help!" Evelyn started shouting banging her hands against him.
"Eva! It's me. Stop screaming." Jeremy told her while trying to grab her hands. She suddenly sopped midway, wide-eyed and open mouthed, and stared at Jeremy's face.
They kept staring at each other's face for a long time before bursting into a thunder of laughter. They stayed in the same position, laughing their hearts out. Jeremy paused with a great smile still pasted on his face and looked at the girl on top of him. This was the first time he had heard her carefree laugh and just looking at her angelic face made his heart feel content. Not wanting to end their moment in an awkward way, he decided to taunt her about the situation.
"So you were planning to murder me?" He said eyeing the knife that she had dropped on the floor while falling.
"What? No! I thought you were a thief!" She said wide eyed, her eyes shining with humor.
"Haaww!! Now I'm a thief!" He exclaimed, throwing a hand to his chest and acting hurt.
"Oh God no!!" She said laughing harder. She can't remember the last time she had laughed out this freely. She looked at Jeremy's face smiling back at her and she didn't feel like hiding her laugh this time. Even for Jeremy it had been after a long time that he doesn't have to act mature. With her he could have laughed with a free spirit.
Without thinking he reached out and adjusted a strand of hair behind her ear. Her body alarmed but it didn't stiff against his touch and she slowly closed her eyes. He closely watched her reaction and lighty brushed his thumb over her lower lip. She opened her eyes and looked back into his eyes. They locked their stares for a few seconds before he slowly moved his gaze back to her lips, as if silently asking for a permission.
In answer she lowered her lashes and leaned in her head. He raised his head to meet her lips midway. The moment their lips touched, they knew in themselves that this was the beginning of a new chapter and that their lives will never be the same again.
