A soft knock could be heard on the door leading to the Chief's office, a small room fitted with a large desk covered in paperwork and memorable photos that contained the Chief's family activities and events. The Chief sat comfortably in his chair behind the desk, calling out to the person who knocked at his closed door.
"Come in!" The Chief grumbled out, his fluffy mustache leaving strands of hair along his lip as he attempted to blow them away, contributing to his gruff voice. As requested, the office door slowly creaked open to reveal the two fools who failed a simple sting operation just a few days ago. Anthony hid a bandage wrapped around his arm just under the baggy sleeve of his Tanish trench coat, keeping that arm close because of how sore it was when touched or bumped into anything in his way. Clyde, on the other hand, dawned a nasty bruise just under brown eyes, it looked better than it did before but still looked pretty rough. Other than that, the two seemed fine to work.
"You needed to speak with us, sir?" Clyde spoke up, his voice quiet and polite as he knew the Chief was nobody they should mess with, although Anthony thought otherwise.
"Is it about Ivory" Anthony huffed out, seemingly annoyed about that whole situation, like he could have done it all on his own, when that simply wasn't the case.
"Of course, it's about Ivory!" Announced the Chief who motioned to the two empty seats in front of the desk, asking for the two to sit down and talk "What you two did was completely outrageous, and you weren't tasked to take on that investigation-" the Chief rambled on "we had officers gearing up for this Saturday to take him down, but you two went and ruined it.. thankfully we caught him, but he could have slipped away"
"But he didn't" Anthony argued, taking a seat as he crossed his arms over his chest, Clyde taking the seat next to him. "If you would have waited for Saturday, Ivory would have moved someplace else" Anthony glanced away from the Chief, trying to justify his reasoning for taking on this task, without it being assigned to him.
"Maybe so, but we have connections and could have caught up with him easily, not to mention undercover officers who are directly tied to ivory! How else do you think we get this information from-"The Chief ran out of breath as he shouted at Anthony, smashing his finger on the table's surface to make his point clear, that they had everything under control. "I don't know what has gotten into you, but this isn't how you behave here, in fact.. this kind of behavior could get you fired"
Anthony sneered "Fired? For taking down one of the city's biggest drug lords!? I don't know what has gotten into your mind old man, but sitting around doing nothing all day won't get you or this force anywhere-" Anthony leaned forward in his seat, almost yelling at the older Chief who held a look of disgust at Anthony's attitude.
Clyde reached over to gently grab Anthony's arm to ease the tension, but he had mistakenly grabbed onto the bandages that covered the slow-healing bullet hole in Anthony's arm "Anthony please-"
"No.." Anthony swatted Clyde's hand away as a shock of pain ran through his arm, but his argument was more important than wincing at the soft pain "I want to know why exactly you're going to fire us, for simply doing our jobs"
Clyde pulled his hand away when Anthony swatted it aside, silently apologizing as he glanced up towards the Chief, only being caught in the crossfire of this one-sided argument.
"Because you two went against order and put yourself in danger and in the danger of others, all to take care of a job we had under control!" The chief stood from his chair, planting his hands along the desk in hopes of appearing taller, since compared to Anthony, the Chief was quite short.
"It was my idea Chief" Clyde interrupted "I suggested we do something about Ivory to Anthony, he was only acting upon my suggestion" He stood up for his partner, who now leaned back in his seat like a moody teenager, arms crossed and staring off into the corner of the room, his matching tan fedora covering his angry green eyes as he listened to Clyde speak up. "If anyone should be fired, it has to be me... I sent Anthony into danger and only requested backup when things went bad... I should have taken more precautions and done my research, instead of ruining our reputation"
