"𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓'𝐒 𝐅𝐔𝐂𝐊𝐄𝐃," 𝐋𝐈𝐋𝐘 𝐑𝐄𝐏𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐑𝐃 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄, 𝐏𝐀𝐂𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐁𝐄𝐓𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐑𝐄𝐌𝐔𝐒'𝐒 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐒𝐈𝐑𝐈𝐔𝐒'𝐒 𝐁𝐄𝐃𝐒. "That's fucked, that's fucked. That's fucked."
James looked up from his rather impressive stack of Exploding Snap cards, which had just begun to hiss and steam. "What's fucked?"
"This whole thing," she said, exasperated. "Honestly, James, haven't you been listening?"
"I've been a little focused here," he said apologetically.
Amara looked at Lily from her spot on Remus's bed. He was still in the library with Dorcas. Amara finally, after four days of punishing school and restless nights, had found the balls to tell them (them being Lily and the Marauders) about her recent interaction with Evan Rosier. She'd left out some key details, obviously, because she would die if the boys knew she'd slept with the enemy. Thankfully, Lily had gotten the memo and kept her mouth shut.
It was interesting, Amara thought, that they were seeing so much more of Lily nowadays. She had begun an almost seamless blend into a deeper relationship with all of the Marauders. Marlene was a reluctant follower; the seven of them had begun sitting together at meals, and spending time in courtyards between classes. It was strange, but Amara was secretly glad; she did not love being the only girl. She looked back down at her homework.
"Fuck this," she said, pushing it away. "You're right, Lily, it is fucked. It's fucked."
"This whole thing," Lily said. She ran a hand through her long, rich hair. "It's making me quite frustrated, not being able to do anything about any of this."
Amara's gaze shot to Remus's. He was sitting at the window ledge, feet propped up, with a book popped open. That was strange; Lily siding with James and Amara over Remus...strange.
James thought so too, clearly, because he was staring up at Lily as if she was an impostor. He quickly corrected his expression before she noticed, plastering a goofy, fake smile on in the nick of time.
"On school grounds," Lily continued, sending James a strange look but saying nothing, "on fellow students, with no fear of any kind of consequence! I mean, that's just ridiculous! Something has to change."
"Should we go to Dumbledore?" Sirius asked from his bed. He'd been laying with his eyes closed, 'thinking about doing homework' for about an hour.
"With what evidence?" James demanded. "I mean, all we know is that Selwyn and them were all in the dungeons. We can't prove anything that happened or was said. Mar already told Poppy her injuries were from Quidditch, so it's not as believable now."
Amara opened her mouth to apologize, but James shook his head.
"We all told you to," he said firmly. "You needed medical attention."
Lily nodded. Her gaze slid to James. "You and Sirius didn't get checked out or anything, did you?"
He shrugged. "We're tough."
Sirius snorted.
"Right, but..." Lily frowned. "I mean, you both still ought to. Especially you, Sirius. Your head."
"I'm cool," Sirius said dryly.
"Like school," Peter supplied from the corner. Amara did not know what he was doing at all, but she didn't really want to look.
Lily gave him one last concerned look before dropping the subject. "Anyways, now we really need to start worrying. I mean, they physically launched a full-scale assassination plot on a teacher at our school, who is a known ally to the Order. He might even be a member, I don't know."
