We arrive at the airport, and it’s 7:45. Our flight leaves at 8:00. Alisa shoves her things into her suitcase and we speed through the check-in and bag inspections. They do their security checks, then we hurry to our gate. We get on the plane and find our seats.

Mom and Grandma walk towards first class and we start to follow them. Mom turns around and looks at us. “You two are in business with Inez and her friend. Have fun!” Then she turns around and walks away. That must mean that Aunt Eliza is in first class with them.

I turn to Alisa. “Well, at least we’re not in coach.” We walk into business to find our seats by Inez and whoever she brought. “Damn it.” I whisper.

“What?” Alisa whispers.

“Look,” I point to who is sitting next to Inez. Augustine. Alisa rolls her eyes and we go sit behind them. The flight should be under an hour, but it will be different depending on how fast the plane is going.

Normally, that’s around 500 mph.
I turn on the little TV in the back of Inez’s seat, in front of me, and pick a show. I won’t be able to finish a movie, but I can get an episode or two of something in. I put the headphones on and open Netflix. I pick Gilmore Girls.

Once the second episode is over, I take off my headphones and Alisa and I get into a conversation about The Mall. That’s literally the name of the mall. It’s not big, and it’s only about 1/5th of the size of a normal mall. There's only about 15 stores and three levels, but it’s about the size of an apartment building rather than six apartments. It’s in the neighboring town of Grand Falls, about a twenty minute drive from the lake.

“They have so many stores there, but I couldn’t even tell you what they are. It’s been ages since I’ve been there, and from what I’ve heard, they changed so much,” I tell Alisa.
“Well, you’ve got to remember some of them,” she reasons.

I try to think. “Well, maybe an Auntie Anne’s, Aeropostale, Bath and Body Works. I heard something about a movie theater and Barnes and Noble being put in.” Alisa’s face lights up.

“We’re definitely going to see a movie.”

Inez leans around her seat and looks back at us. “I’m pretty sure there's a Lululemon, Starbucks, and Nike. They updated the store last year.”
Augustine joins the conversation. “Well, maybe we’ll just have to all go together when we get there.”

Alisa and I look at each other.

“Sure,” she says.

Over the speaker, there is a few seconds of static and confusion. Then the pilot’s voice comes in.

“Sorry about that. Fasten your seatbelts and prepare for landing.”
Many people on the plane cheer and we begin our descent.

Outside the airport, we find two cars waiting for us. We don't have drivers in the traditional sense, but our housekeepers do it all. Aunt Eliza, Augustine, Inez, and Grandma all pile into one car and Mom, Alisa, and I pile into the other. The lakehouse is about a twenty minute drive from the airport. The Mall is in the same town as the airport, Grand Falls. I’m sure we’ll be back here soon enough.

“Did you enjoy your flight?” Mom asks us from the passenger seat.

“Yes,” Alisa and I chorus.

“I’m sorry that you had to sit in business rather than first class, but your aunt, grandmother, and I had some… business to discuss.” Mom’s tone suggests that the conversation is over, so we are quiet for the rest of the drive.

After about fifteen minutes, I dig the tupperware that the turnovers are in out of my bag on the floor. I packed two bags, and this one has all my necessities. My wallet, sunglasses, a phone charger, snacks (surprisingly easy to sneak those past security), a blanket, chapstick, and a few other things.

I hand a turnover to Alisa and ask my mom if she wants one. “No, thank you.” She glances back at us. “You couldn’t wait until we got to the lakehouse?” I just shrug and she rolls her eyes. Alisa and I split the last turnover. I do it over the tupperware so it doesn't make a mess.

Just as I pack the tupperware back into my bag, we pull into the gates of the property. Soon enough, the house comes into view and Alisa lets out a gasp. Let the summer begin.
