Lyra entered Ethan's room, carrying a bottle of wine and two glasses. She settled onto his bed, awaiting his attention.
Ethan looked up from his work, curiosity etched on his face.
"What's the occasion? Did something good happen?"
Lyra smiled softly.
"Just finish your work. We'll celebrate when you're done."
Ethan's eyes crinkled at the corners as he smiled.
"Okay."
He joined Lyra on the bed, the wine bottle between them. They poured each other glasses, the silence comfortable.
Lyra's gaze drifted off, lost in thought. Ethan noticed the faraway look and asked,
"Everything okay?"
Lyra's focus snapped back.
"Yeah... just grateful, I guess."
Ethan's brow furrowed.
"You're being weird, Lyra. Like you're saying goodbye or something."
Lyra shook her head, a faint smile on her lips.
"No, nothing like that."
She paused, her eyes locking onto Ethan's.
"I'm not supposed to say this... but I couldn't bear keeping it inside."
Ethan's curiosity piqued, he leaned in.
Lyra's voice dropped to a whisper.
"I just want to be high tonight. Forget everything else."
She rose, heading to the fridge for another bottle.
Ethan watched her, sensing there was more to her words. But Lyra's enigmatic smile hinted at secrets unspoken.
"Want to talk about it?"
Ethan asked, as Lyra returned with the bottle.
Lyra shook her head, pouring herself another drink.
"Not tonight. Tonight, let's just be."
Ethan nodded, clinking his glass against hers.
As they sipped their drinks, the tension between them was palpable, yet unresolved.
As the night wore on, Lyra's words slurred, her inhibitions fading with each sip.
Ethan watched, concerned, but also intrigued.
"Hey, Ethan?"
Lyra's voice was barely above a whisper.
"Yeah?"
Ethan replied, his eyes locked onto hers.
"I need to tell you something."
Lyra's gaze drifted, her thoughts jumbled.
"Go ahead,"
Ethan encouraged, his voice soft.
Lyra's words tumbled out, fragmented.
"There's this guy... he's like a father to me, but... we became close, like siblings. Now, I feel... things."
Ethan's brow furrowed.
"What kind of feelings?"
Lyra's eyes closed, her face scrunched.
"Emotional... I think. But how do I tell him?"
