Chapter Sixteen
— Diner Date —

9:57 AM | Tuesday

"Okay so the serious question is" I said turning to Curly on my stool. "Mhm?" He asked looking at me. I covered my mouth with the menu "Do you prefer bacon or sausage?".

"I'm gonna have to say sausage" he shrugged. "Really?" I asked shocked. "Yeah, would you pick bacon?" He asked. "Of course I would" I said laying the menu on the counter.

He smiled at me "Why?". "Because it's the most normal breakfast choice" I laughed. "Sausage is" Curly laughed. "I'm pretty sure what ever came first is the best" I smiled.

"So what came first?" He asked. "Bacon" I smiled proudly. "You're just playing favorites now" Curly said with a big smile. "You guys ready to order?" A voice asked.

I looked up the voice to see Marcia, she was our waitress. I had completely forgot she worked at this diner, it was in the middle of town for Socs and Greasers, why would she pick here?

Her smile slowly fell when she seen me "Can we get the waffles with bacon" Curly said looking at me with a smile. I tried to give him a smile back as Marcia wrote down the order.

"Would you like anything to drink?" She asked tensely. "Could we get a vanilla milkshake?" He asked. She nodded writing it down too "That'll be out soon" she added before rushing off.

Curly sighed before turning to me "Something wrong?". I turned to him shaking my head "No". "You're a terrible liar" Curly said placing his hand on my thigh "What's bugging you?".

I looked around for Marcia to make sure she was out of earshot. When I couldn't spot her I looked back at Curly "Do you remember when I told you about my old boyfriend kissing another girl?" I asked.

He nodded. "That's her" I whispered. "He cheated on you with that?" He asked. "Curly!" I exclaimed in a whisper hitting his arm gently. "What? I'm just being honest" he said defensively.

"You don't have to rude" I sighed. "You feel bad for her?" He asked confused. "Well I'm not mean enough to call her ugly" I said. "I am" he said looking around.

"I can tell" I said looking at him. He smiled a bit. We made eye contact as we smiled until I eventually started to smile too.

A few minutes go by until we eventually got our food. "I haven't had diner waffles in years" I said cutting my fork into one. "I have them every other day" Curly sighed. "Why?" I asked sticking the bite in my mouth.

"I always have to bring my sister over here to see her stupid boyfriend" he groaned. "Who's her boyfriend?" I asked smiling. "Some Bryon guy but I don't really know the kid" he said.

"So you have a sister? What's her name?" I asked. "Angela, I got a brother too his name is Tim" he added. "I used to be an only child" I said. His eyebrows perked up "What was it like?".

"It was kind of lonely, I was always with my friends" I sighed. "So you like having brothers?" He asked. I thought for a bit "Yeah, it's not so scary to be alone now".

"But you're not alone" he said confused. "I meant when I'm in my room alone, it's nice to know someone else is in the house" I explained. "Were your parents ever home?" He asked.

"Not really, my dad was always off at work and my mom was always with her friends" I sighed. "I'd rather my dad have a job, he's always drunk somewhere" he said.

"What about your mom?" I asked. "I never know where she's at, she always comes home late" he added. I felt bad for him but at the same time I felt like we lived the same life.

His parents were never around and neither were mine but to an extent mine tried. "Do you miss them?" He spoke up. "What?" I asked taken aback. "Your parents, do you miss them?" He asked again.

I was quiet for a good while. "Mhm I do, but I miss my mom the most, she was perfect" I said thinking about her. She really was, she was kind, pretty, smart, everything I wanted to be.

"So she was like you?" He asked. I was shocked at his words, I wasn't perfect by any means. "You don't mean that" I said trying to contain a smile. "I really do" he said with a proud smile.

I gave him a genuine smile and in return he gave me the cheesiest smile ever but I didn't mind. "Just shut up and eat your waffles" I said looking away from him, he let out a small laugh before doing so.

"You ever play pool?" He asked walking around the pool table in front of us. "Of course I have" I said focusing on my pool stick. "You good at it?" He asked trying to distract me.

Before I decided to respond it hit the purple solid ball scoring another point "I'd say so" I said standing up to him. "I bet you're gonna lose" he smirked. "Really? What're you gonna bet?" I asked.

One thing that stuck out to me about greasers was the way they talked, crazy how something so small can make such a big difference. "If you lose you have to give me a kiss" he smiled.

Before I could think I placed my hand on the 8-ball rolling it into the pocket. I turned back around to him "That's not even a bet". I wrapped my arms around his neck pulling him into a deep kiss.

In a few seconds me and Curly were in the back alley making out. I kept my arms around his neck tightly making sure he couldn't stop. I took a few breaths in between each kiss.

"Curly?" A voice asked. I froze mid kiss, before I could think I buried my head into his shoulder. "Pony?" Curly asked. Shit. "What're you doing out here?" Curly asked followed by a gulp.

"Just tryna take a smoke, who you got there?" Pony had a smile to his voice, I could tell. "Just somebody" Curly said nervously "Where's Johnny?". "Somewhere with Cilla" Pony said.

"Curly let's get out of here" I whispered to him. Curly stayed quiet for a few seconds "Well I'm gonna get outta here, I'll see you later?" Curly asked Pony. "Guess so" Pony said.
