Chapter 10

Sophie's POV

I pulled my hair in front of my face as my video played.
The einherjar watching the screens were looking at them in shocked silence. The second that Sandor and the other bodyguards appeared on the screen, the murmuring began. I could hear the Thanes quietly talking on their table.

I saw myself facing a black cloaked Neverseen member whom I knew as Gethen with my friends and the other Neverseen members fighting at the other end of the courtyard. The camera moved closer to the fight, circling the courtyard. The einherjar watched me clip Gethen on the shoulder, ensuing in low chuckles at me missing.

I heard the painfully familiar voice of Vespera ringing through the screens, telling me that all my friends had been captured. I watched as I ,in the video, turned and saw my friends and allies tied up on the ground. The einherjar, the valkyries, the Thanes, and I all watched as I saw myself begin to float a couple of feet in the air. We saw the black lightning bolts tearing from my forehead and slamming into the members of the Neverseen, including Vespera.

Every other einherjar in the room muttered in slight disbelief when they saw this, barely believing that I could have done that.

But something in the corner of the screen caught my eye. I saw the same grinning shadowy figure as in the previous two Valkyrie Visions, but this time, they were holding a large, black bow that they were aiming directly at me. I watched as the figure released their arrow, and faster than the blink of an eye, it pierced my chest, right where my heart would have been. I then promptly collapsed and watched Sam bring my soul to Valhalla.

Silence fell upon everyone in the Feast Hall. It was obvious to me that none of them had ever seen an ogre or goblin before.

Helgi put down his cutlery. "Samirah Al-abbas, explain,"

Sam fiddled with her hijab. "Sophie Foster died bravely. She stopped those people from kidnapping her allies."

Helgi sighed as if he were watching a toddler defending their toys. "Very few people here dispute that statement. However, what we told you to explain was the question of what those creatures that were fighting actually are."

Sam visibly relaxed, but there was still a hint of tension in her eyes and set of her jaw. "In truth, I do not know."

A wave of muttering passed through the Hall at this. I assumed that Sam was quite knowledgeable about species. I had to stop myself from smirking slightly smugly at knowing that elves, dwarves, and the rest of the species in the Lost Cities before the entirety of Valhalla.

"A very interesting turn of events, it would seem," Helgi stated, "However, now is not the time to dwell upon these mysteries." He stood, "Sophie Elizabeth Foster! Do you know your parentage?"

"Umm..." I debated whether or not to tell the truth. "I never knew my father."

"We will seek wisdom from the runes, unless a Higher Being wishes to intercede?" He and every other einherjar turned to look at the throne, where the ravens watched me with their beady black eyes. Everyone then turned to the lake, as if expecting something to come out the water in a giant bubble.
"Very well, Vala-"

He was interrupted by, you guessed it, a giant bubble came out of the water and popped, revealing three women wearing white. The Hall fell completely silent, apart from the crackling of the fire and the occasional cough from an einherji.

"Who are they?" I asked Sam in confusion.

"The Norns, they have come to read your fate." Samirah answered with a slight shiver in her voice.
