**Isla's POV **

I sat across from Harper at the café just outside the university campus, stirring my coffee absentmindedly as I tried to piece together my emotions. The past few days had been a whirlwind-training at the academy, my powers awakening, the bond with Damian growing stronger with each passing moment. And now, in just a week, I would be introduced to the pack as their new Luna.

But despite everything I had accomplished, the weight of being Damian's *second* mate hung over me like a storm cloud.

Harper sipped her tea, her sharp eyes watching me with quiet understanding. She was one of the few people I could truly be myself around. Despite being human, she had grown up in Blackwood Ridge, adopted by a kind wolf couple who had raised her like their own. Harper was smart, strategic, and had a knack for planning traps and defenses-skills she had honed over the years. But more than that, she was my best friend, the one person I could always rely on.

"I don't know what to do, Harper," I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper. "My feelings for Damian are growing stronger every day, but... I can't help but feel like I'm living in Lyra's shadow."

Harper raised an eyebrow. "You mean the first mate thing?"

I nodded, feeling the familiar sting of insecurity creep in. "Yeah. Most of the pack is still mourning her. And in a week, I'm supposed to be introduced as their new Luna. I don't know if they'll ever accept me, or if Damian will ever fully let go of Lyra."

Harper set her cup down, leaning forward with a serious look on her face. "Listen, Isla, I know this isn't easy. But you have to remember that you're not trying to replace Lyra. You're creating your own path, your own place in this pack. The fact that Damian bonded with you-*chose* you-says something. You're not just some stand-in."

I sighed, running a hand through my hair. "It's not just that. I found out that the room I almost opened at Damian's house... it was *their* room. Damian and Lyra's."

Harper's expression softened. "That's... tough. I won't lie, that's a lot to carry. But maybe Damian's struggling with it too. It's not easy for him to let go of someone he loved. But it doesn't mean he doesn't care for you."

"I know," I whispered, feeling the ache in my chest. "I just feel... out of place. Like no matter what I do, I'll never truly be part of this pack."

Harper reached across the table, squeezing my hand. "Hey, if this all gets too much, I'll take you away from all of it. We'll leave Blackwood Ridge, start somewhere fresh. You don't have to stay here if it's breaking you."

I smiled, a small laugh escaping my lips. "You're not going anywhere, Harper. You love it here."

Harper grinned. "Maybe. But I love you more. And besides, I'm a master of strategy and traps. If anyone tries to stop us, they'll have to get through me."

The lightness in her voice eased some of the tension in my chest, and for the first time in days, I felt a little bit of the weight lift. Harper had always been my rock, and I knew she would stand by me no matter what.

"I think I'm just overwhelmed," I admitted. "With the ball coming up and being introduced as Luna... it's a lot."

Harper's eyes lit up. "Speaking of the ball, why don't we do something fun to take your mind off things? How about a spa day? We could relax, get pampered, and take some time to just... breathe."

A smile tugged at my lips. "A spa day sounds amazing."

"Good. Let's go today. And afterward, we'll start planning for the ball. I'll help you with whatever you need. You'll look stunning, and I'll make sure you're ready for anything."

---

The spa was exactly what I needed. The warmth of the steam rooms, the gentle massages, and the calming scents helped ease the tension I'd been carrying for days. Harper and I spent the afternoon chatting, laughing, and enjoying the peace that the spa offered. For a few hours, I forgot about the pressure of being Luna, the bond with Damian, and everything else that had been weighing on me.

As we sat in the relaxation lounge, wrapped in fluffy robes and sipping herbal tea, Harper nudged me with a teasing grin. "So, about this ball... Are you ready to face all the powerful Alphas and Lunas that'll be there?"

I groaned, sinking deeper into my chair. "Don't remind me. I don't know the first thing about these packs."

"Well, you're in luck," Harper said, her eyes sparkling mischievously. "Because Vivienne is going to help you. She's been at the academy longer than anyone, and she knows all the ins and outs of every pack attending. She offered to give you the rundown."

That didn't surprise me. Vivienne had been incredibly helpful, though she had a way of teasing me that always kept me on my toes.

"And," Harper added with a smirk, "she mentioned something about a certain princess who's had a crush on Damian for years."

I raised an eyebrow. "Princess?"

"Oh, yeah. Princess Elara. She's from one of the most powerful packs. Apparently, she's been infatuated with Damian since she was a kid. And now, she's about to go through her first shift at the ball, right after your introduction as Luna. It's going to be... interesting."

I couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. "Great. That's just what I need-some princess who's in love with Damian."

Harper grinned. "Don't worry. You're the Luna now. You've got this."

---

Later that evening, I returned to Damian's house, feeling more centered after the spa day with Harper. The looming ball and my introduction as Luna still weighed on me, but I was beginning to feel more prepared, more ready to face whatever came next.

As I made my way to my room, a strange feeling washed over me, like the faint echo of someone's thoughts brushing against mine. I paused, glancing around, but the house was quiet. Still, the sensation lingered, an odd pulse of energy that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.

Shaking it off, I headed to bed, trying to push away the unease. But as I lay there, drifting off to sleep, the feeling remained-a distant presence, like someone watching from the shadows.

**Unknown POV **

In the shadows of the forest, the figure watched the house from a distance, eyes gleaming with a mixture of anticipation and something darker. Isla Kingsley. The new Luna, the one who carried a legacy she didn't yet understand.

The figure's lips curled into a smile. Soon, very soon, everything would fall into place. Isla's powers were awakening, but she had no idea of the role she was destined to play.

And when the time came, when the truth was finally revealed... she would be the key.
