**Damian's POV**The quiet tension between them in the car was palpable as Damian drove Isla back from her university. The conversation between them had been short, mostly about her exam, but both of them could feel something was wrong. The air felt thick with an impending danger, though neither had spoken it aloud.
Damian pulled up to Isla's aunt Selene's house, the familiar landscape now holding a strange sense of foreboding. He glanced over at Isla as she unbuckled her seatbelt, her fingers lingering on the door handle. She hesitated, her eyes scanning the house as if something unseen was lurking within.
He felt it too. A prickle of unease ran down his spine, and he instinctively reached out, grabbing her arm before she could step out.
"Wait," he said quietly, his voice low but urgent.
Isla turned to him, confusion flashing in her eyes. "What is it?"
"Something's not right." Damian's gaze swept across the property, his heightened senses flaring. The house seemed unnaturally still. There were no sounds of life-no birds, no wind, no movement at all. Just... silence.
Without another word, Damian closed his eyes and sent out a mind-link to his patrol squad.
**Patrol, come to Selene's house. Now. Something's off.**
Within seconds, his patrol squad answered, their thoughts echoing back with confirmation. Isla's breath hitched beside him as she realized what was happening. She glanced back at the house, her body tense, fear creeping into her eyes.
Damian's grip on her arm tightened slightly. "We're going to check it out, but you're staying by my side."
Isla nodded, her heart beating fast in her chest. The seconds dragged on as they waited, the air thick with anticipation. Soon, the sound of running footsteps and the arrival of Damian's patrol broke the silence. Ethan's most trusted warriors, fierce and alert, appeared in the shadows, surrounding the house with swift precision.
"Check the perimeter. Stay sharp," Damian commanded, his voice cold and authoritative. His mind was already racing ahead, trying to anticipate what they might find inside.
One of the patrol members stepped forward. "We'll handle the search, Alpha. You should take Isla to the pack house. If there's trouble, we'll deal with it."
Damian hesitated for a moment, torn between wanting to stay and search the house himself and the instinct to protect Isla. His gaze flicked to her, standing rigidly by his side, her face pale with fear. He had to keep her safe.
"We're going to the pack house," he finally said, his voice low. "If there's anything, mind-link me immediately."
The patrol nodded in unison, and Damian led Isla back to the car, his senses still on high alert. Isla's hand trembled slightly as she climbed into the passenger seat, her eyes never leaving the house.
The drive to the pack house was tense, the silence between them filled with unspoken dread. Damian's mind raced, his heart pounding in his chest as he thought of Selene. If something had happened to her, it would devastate Isla. And the thought of Isla being hurt because of someone targeting her family filled him with a rage he could barely contain.
As they approached the pack house, Damian's father, Ethan, sent a mind-link, his voice urgent. **Damian, you need to get here fast. Something's happened. Several Alpha packs have been attacked. We have visitors.**
Damian's grip tightened on the steering wheel. **We're almost there. I've left the patrol squad to investigate Selene's house. We think something's happened to her too.**
