**Isla's POV **
The world felt like it was spinning out of control, but Isla stood frozen, staring at the pale, dying figure of the Alpha King. The room buzzed with tension, with commands being shouted between Alphas and advisors, but all she could hear was the steady beat of her own heart pounding in her ears.
Kian had done this.
Her brother, the one she had only just discovered existed, was responsible for this devastation. And not just him-there was someone else behind him, pulling the strings, someone more dangerous. Malachi, her uncle, the man her aunt had feared and whispered about for years. The realization made Isla's stomach churn.
Damian stood beside her, his grip tight on her hand, anchoring her to the present. She couldn't bear to look at him, not when the weight of everything threatened to crush her. Her aunt was missing, taken by Kian and his allies. Powerful Alphas and Lunas were captured, their fates unknown, and now the Alpha King was dying, infected with some dark poison her brother had unleashed.
Isla felt like she couldn't breathe.
"Isla," Damian's voice cut through the chaos around her, soft but steady. He stepped in front of her, his golden eyes filled with concern. "Are you with me?"
She blinked, the fog in her mind lifting slightly as she met his gaze. The strength in his presence, the unwavering determination in his voice, pulled her back from the edge. She nodded weakly, though her chest still felt tight with fear and confusion.
"We're going to stop them," Damian said, his voice low, only for her. "We'll find Selene. We'll stop Kian and Malachi. But I need you with me, Isla."
Isla swallowed hard, her throat dry as she tried to steady her breathing. She couldn't fall apart now. There wasn't time for that. She needed to be strong, to fight back against the storm that was coming for all of them.
"I'm with you," she whispered, though her voice trembled.
Damian's hand gently cupped her cheek, his thumb brushing away a tear she hadn't realized had fallen. "We'll get through this. I promise."
The sound of footsteps approaching broke the moment between them. Ethan and Draven stepped closer, their faces grim with determination.
"The Alpha King won't last much longer," Ethan said, his voice steady but laced with tension. "The healers are doing everything they can, but this poison... whatever it is, it's spreading too fast."
Isla's heart sank as she looked at the Alpha King's ashen face. He had always been a towering figure of strength, someone the packs had looked to for guidance and leadership. But now he was vulnerable, brought down by a power no one had ever seen before.
"Kian did this," Isla said quietly, the weight of the truth pressing down on her. "But it's Malachi who's controlling him."
Draven's eyes flashed with fury. "We've known for years that Malachi was dangerous, but this... this is different. This is darker than anything we've faced."
"He's been planning this for a long time," Ethan added. "He's using Kian, manipulating him, and now he has the Alphas and Lunas he's taken as leverage. He's going to try to destabilize us, weaken the pack structures."
Damian's jaw tightened. "Then we need to move quickly. We can't let him gain any more ground."
Draven nodded in agreement. "Our priority is finding where they're keeping the captives. We need to get Astrid back. And we need to figure out how Kian is using this new power."
"Whatever it is," Ethan said darkly, "it's dangerous. The Alpha King's condition is proof of that."
Isla's stomach churned again at the thought of Kian-her brother, twisted and manipulated by Malachi. She remembered the brief moment when she had seen him at the palace, the flash of recognition in his eyes, the hint of something softer. But it had been quickly buried under the darkness that consumed him.
"He's still in there," Isla whispered, more to herself than anyone else. "The Kian I saw at the palace... he's not completely gone. He's fighting it."
Damian's brow furrowed as he turned to her. "Isla, I know you want to believe that, but we can't risk underestimating him."
"I'm not underestimating him," Isla said firmly, surprising even herself with the strength in her voice. "I know he's dangerous, but he's also being controlled. Malachi has done something to him, twisted him. If we can reach him, maybe-"
Draven shook his head. "He's not your brother anymore. He's a weapon. And we can't afford to hesitate."
Isla's heart clenched at the harshness of his words, but she knew there was truth in them. Still, she couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to Kian than the weapon Malachi had turned him into.
"We need to stop Malachi," Damian said, his voice cutting through the tension. "And to do that, we need to figure out where he's hiding. If we can find him, we can stop this before it gets worse."
"And how do you propose we do that?" Draven asked, his tone sharp.
Damian glanced at Isla, his gaze filled with a quiet resolve. "We start with Selene."
Isla's breath caught, her heart pounding. "You think she knows where they are?"
"If anyone does, it's her," Damian said. "She's been close to Malachi's plans for years. She might know something, even if she doesn't realize it."
"But she's been taken," Isla said, her voice trembling again. "We don't even know where to start."
"We'll find her," Damian said, his voice steady. "We'll find her, and we'll bring her back. But we need to act fast. Every minute we lose, Malachi gains more ground."
Ethan nodded in agreement, his expression hard. "We need to mobilize the packs. We can't wait for another attack. We need to take the fight to them."
Draven crossed his arms, his eyes narrowing. "My pack is ready. But we'll need more than just brute force. We'll need a plan."
"And we'll make one," Damian said. "But first, we need to know what we're dealing with. We need to find out exactly what Malachi is planning."
A heavy silence fell over the room as the weight of the situation pressed down on them all. The future of their world hung in the balance, and the stakes had never been higher. But despite the fear and uncertainty swirling around her, Isla felt a small flicker of hope. They had a plan. They had a goal.
They weren't going to let Malachi win.
As the Alphas began to discuss their next steps, Isla found herself clinging to that flicker of hope. It was small, but it was enough to keep her going.
She wasn't alone in this fight. She had Damian. She had the packs. And she still had hope that Kian could be saved.
Now, all they had to do was survive long enough to stop the war that was coming.
