Chapter 20 - Mallory

  After we all introduced our self's we split into two groups. Boys in on and girls in the other. It's not that I didn't like this idea, it was the fact the only person I really knew here was Nathan. Although I had mixed emotions about Nathan.
   After what he did how could I really trust Nathan? I was just his assignment. How could I be so fooled? It made me feel so stupid! I want him to still be my friend part of my really actually liked him but, at the same time, I just don't know its just.... If I'm truly honest with my self, I loved him like a brother maybe even more... But that doesn't matter anymore. I want to hate him but I can't.
   After awhile all the guys got up and left leaving me, Sophia, Adela, and Adelhied. They said they wanted to "train" what ever that meant. The other girls started to talk. I didn't know them that well so I just sat there awkwardly in the  corner.
  The girl named Adela sat in the group of girls but didn't say anything. She looked scared to. She had long dark brown hair that was tied back in a tight braid. With bright blue eyes wondering around causally watching everyone carefully. Her twin sister on the other hand was laid back and extremely social. Her and Sophia were chatting up a storm like old friends.
  Sophia had dirty blonde hair that was braided over her shoulder. She wore a white suit kind of like black widows with red stripes running down the sides of her suit. Her suit was torn and she had dry blood stains all over her suit. I wonder what happened to her.
  "What happened to you?" I said realizing the words had escaped my lips. Adelhied started at me like I was some type of monster for asking. I guess I kind of am a monster when you think about it...
  Sophia looked down at her cloths almost with tears in her eyes. The tone in her voice darkened.
   "Oh, um, me and my brother were attacked by Hydra..." The tone darkened the room. Leaving us in an uncomfortable silence. Adelhied also noticed the silence and tried to lighten the mood.
  "So would you all like to go training or something?"  Adelhied asked. Sophia dried her tears.
   "Sure, we can go to the shooting range." Sophia said getting up and leading us down stairs.
  The shooting range was just like a normal shooting range you would see any where else. You half to stand behind a certain line and at the end of a long hallway was a target. Once you shot it, the target would come forward showing you where you had hit.
  Sophia went into all the rules of the shooting range. Number one always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. Apparently the muzzle of the fire arm is the end of the barrel from which your projectile will exit. I will never remember this.
  Rule number two fire arms must be unloaded when not in use. Number three, don't rely on your guns "safety". She went into detail of why not but I zoned. It was like math class. Long, complicated, boring, and too many steps to follow.  By the time I finished zoning Sophia was on rule number ten.
  You must learn the mechanical and handling characteristics of the fire arm you are using. We our using a very specific 9x19 Walter P99, German semiautomatic pistol. A pistol is a subtype. I swear Sophia is a walking gun dictionary book.
She showed us how to use the gun. I've never shot a gun before, not even a BB gun. Orphanages don't allow guns for some odd reason.
  I'm actually kind of nervous. I'm not sure why though. I should have paid more attention to what Sophia was saying. Rather than zoning through it.
  "Here you go." Sophia said handing me the gun. I turned it over in my hands unsure if I should really do this.
  "Thank you." I finally answered.
  "You van go in range three in between Adela and Heddi. I'm in range one if you need me. Remember to put your glasses on and noise canceling head phone to protect your ears." Sophia said loading her gun and walking away.
  I walked over to box containing the glasses and ear things. I put them on and went to range three. There were four ranges total. Sophia in range one, Heddi in the second and Adela in the fourth.
  I looked out at the target and then down to the gun. And in that moment I realized something. I didn't know what the heck I was doing. I looked down Heidi's range and she was doing just fine, shooting to her hearts content. I tiptoed over to Adela's range.
   She was sitting on the floor examining the gun like a new and strange object from a new world. That's when I realized something else. This is a new world to her. Everything is new and strange and probably confuses her.
  I walked over to her taking off my goggles and weird ear protection things.
  "Hey, Adela". I said causing her to jump up. I think I might have accidentally scared her.
  "Hello, I was not expecting anyone to be watching." She said running to the end of the range making sure no one else was watching.
  "Sorry," I stated. "You just looked as confused as I do. So I thought maybe that we could help each other we could figure it out." Adela eyed me down head to foot cautiously.
  "Adelhied didn't put you up to this did she?"
  "No, why would she?" I answered making Adela sigh with relief. I wonder why she thought that...
   "Sorry I didn't mean to frighten you. My sister..." Adela paused for a moment before speaking again. "Well she can be rather hostile at times. But, yes I would love the help. I don't mind I honestly need it." That's the most I've ever heard her talk, but it confused me. What did she mean by hostile?
  "Yes well did you pay any attention to the rules or how to use the gun? "I asked.  " I'm afraid not."
"This could take longer then expected." I picked up the gun and stuck my hand straight out towards the target. "Step back, I've seen this done in plenty of movies."
   "What's a movie?" Adela asked. Oh brother. She is going to be a piece of work.

  Sorry it's taken me so long to update, its summer and I'm lazy. So anyways friendships were made, sisters were questioned and you probably learned something new about guns. Because I know I did.
