JUNIPER'S day consisted of waking up at the crack ass of dawn, getting ready for school, riding the bus to school, go through eight excruciatingly long hours of school, and finally, going home.
The girl entered her deadly silent house, the sound of the door clicking when she shut it, echoing throughout the house.
She made sure to let out a loud I'm home! just in case her parents were home. Unsurprisingly, they weren't home.
She cleared her throat, setting her backpack down on the couch, then making her way to the kitchen, then settling on one of the stools.
Juniper's eyes wandered around the kitchen, feeling claustrophobic and overwhelmed by her thoughts. After moving from Vietnam to Australia and then to Royal Woods, it had always been the three of them–but in reality, Juniper had been on her own since childhood, growing accustomed to the loneliness, considering her parents worked tirelessly to make ends meet.
Juniper's stomach growled in protest, reminding her that she had gone without food for the entire school day. She hopped down from the stool, walked to the fridge, and opened it, scanning for no-cook options. With a disappointed sigh, she went on to her pantry, desperate for a snack.
She'd managed to find a quick and easy snack–veggie straws. She lazily grabbed the party-sized bag of veggie straw chips, then made her way back into the kitchen.
Suddenly, her phone pinged with a notification, illuminating her phone, cutting through the silence like a knife.
Juniper glanced at her phone, checking who the notification was from.

Juniper rolled her eyes, continuing to chew on the chips. Another notification lit up her phone, followed by another one, and then another.
"Oh my gosh..." mumbled Juniper, finally getting on her phone to check what all the commotion was about.
