❝ not my business,
but i had to warn ya ❞

"BUT Lyyyynnnn, I really don't wanna go," Juniper grumbled, dragging her feet. "I'm not even mentally prepared!"

Lynn gave Juniper's hand a reassuring squeeze, ignoring her complaints. "Keep up, princess. You'll live."

The entire walk, Juniper went on a full rant about school, and Lynn listened silently, an amused smile on her face.

The school building appeared before them, and Lynn shot Juniper a concerned glance, remembering how the weekend's events had left her as Juniper's one and only friend.

Lynn observed the hesitation in Juniper's steps. She was unusually stiff, carrying a tension that made her seem unlike herself.

Lynn was tempted to ask how Juniper was feeling, but seeing that Juniper didn't seem open to talking, she decided not to press the matter.

When they reached Lynn's hangout spot with her friends, the bell had already rung. With no class of her own, Lynn decided to walk Juniper to hers, ignoring her friends' questioning looks as she held Juniper's hand. This was just something friends did, she reminded herself–though holding Juniper's hand felt unexpectedly different.

Some curious eyes followed them, accompanied by whispers, but a single glare from Lynn was all it took to make everyone look away.

"This is it," Juniper said, gently slipping her hand from Lynn's. She flashed Lynn a soft, appreciative smile before stepping into the classroom. Lynn watched her disappear through the door, feeling an odd emptiness where their hands had been joined.

This was a normal thing for friends–right?

She headed to the commons, where her friends were waiting, and as soon as she took a seat next to Margo, the group immediately started grilling her with questions.

"Are you and her dating?"

"Nah, there's no way you're being this nice to Juniper Phan, bro!"

"I'll bet a crisp twenty that they're totally in lesbians with each other."

"Out of everyone, why's she the only exception to your no-touch rule? I thought physical touch was your nightmare."
