Day by day, Taehyung had become accustomed to the hateful remarks thrown at him. He'd learned to ignore them, sometimes even responding with a fierce glare when the insults stung too deep. But occasionally, someone would stand up for him, offering a word of support or a kind look. It helped, even if only a little.
One afternoon, as Taehyung was tidying up his locker, the echo of whispered insults still fresh in his ears, he suddenly felt a familiar presence behind him. Turning around, he found Jungkook standing there, his expression unreadable as usual, but there was something softer in his gaze.
"Hey," Jungkook said, his voice low but clear enough to get Taehyung's attention. "You busy after school?"
Taehyung blinked, closing his locker and shaking his head. "No, not really. Why?"
Jungkook hesitated for a moment, as if choosing his words carefully. "I was thinking... maybe we could work on our project at my place. It'd be quieter there. Less distractions."
Taehyung looked at him for a second, surprised. After everything that had been happening, it was a little unexpected for Jungkook to ask him so casually, especially with everything going on at school. But then again, this was Jungkook—cold, distant, and yet, somehow, still looking out for him in his own way.
"Sure," Taehyung finally replied, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "I'll meet you after class."
Jungkook nodded, his expression softening just a fraction. "Good. I'll see you then."
With that, Jungkook turned and walked away, leaving Taehyung with a mix of emotions swirling inside him—relief, excitement, and something else he couldn't quite name. It wasn't often that Jungkook reached out like this, and Taehyung couldn't help but wonder what it meant.
Once they arrived at Jungkook's place, the atmosphere between them shifted into something focused and productive. They spread out their notes and materials on the floor of Jungkook's room and began working on their project. For the next couple of hours, they were completely absorbed in their tasks—researching, writing, and putting together their ideas.
Taehyung was pleasantly surprised by how serious and knowledgeable Jungkook was. Despite his cold and distant reputation, Jungkook turned out to be incredibly smart, and his ideas were sharp and well-organized. Taehyung found himself admiring how quick Jungkook's mind worked, especially when they hit a few tough spots in the project that seemed tricky to solve.
As they finally finished, Taehyung leaned back, stretching his arms with a satisfied sigh. He looked over at the neatly arranged papers and the finished product, feeling a sense of accomplishment wash over him.
"Wow," Taehyung said, a grin spreading across his face. "I didn't expect us to finish so quickly. It looks really good."
Jungkook smirked slightly, leaning back against his bed, clearly proud but trying to play it cool. "Told you we'd get it done."
Taehyung laughed softly, shaking his head in disbelief. "I have to say, Jungkook, I didn't expect you to be this good at schoolwork. I mean, you're so quiet in class..."
Jungkook shrugged, his smirk turning into a small smile. "Just because I don't talk much doesn't mean I'm not paying attention."
Taehyung nodded, feeling a newfound respect for Jungkook. "Well, I'm glad we were partners for this. You really helped pull everything together."
Jungkook glanced at Taehyung, his gaze softening. "You did a lot, too. It was a good team effort."
For a moment, they just sat there, the project finished and a sense of satisfaction settling between them. There was a calmness in the air, and for the first time, Taehyung felt like he was really starting to see another side of Jungkook—one that wasn't just cold or distant, but capable, intelligent, and unexpectedly kind.
