"Are you mad at me?" Asher asks his sister. The two managed to exit the home without being caught. Both Everlynn and their mother Alycia were both passed out and fast asleep in the living room. Olivette hadn't said but maybe one word since leaving the house. Her head was screaming at her. Filling her with doubt and guilt leaving the house, the safety of the house knowing if the two are caught doing something they're not supposed to or even being caught up in trouble their mother will not forgive them. They would be in a whole lot of trouble, more than they ever have. It was their mother's number rule. Don't leave the homestead. Yet here they were, walking down the gravel road after having run far from their home.

"O, please. You can't just not talk to me the whole time. You didn't have to come," Asher said, shrugging his shoulders. Olivette shook her head, keeping her green eyes straight ahead.

"Unfortunately, I did to make sure you don't get yourself hurt or worse, killed," Olivette responds, even if her voice is low Asher knew the words all too well. The twins looked out for each other. They always have. And in situations when one wants to do something and the other doesn't, they both still do it no matter what. It's just how they are. Protective over one another.

"O, we have to know what's there," Asher says like he hasn't said it time and time again.

"Mum hid it for a reason. We shouldn't be doing this," Olivette says, keeping her eyes on the road. Her hands shoved into her jacket pockets.

"We could be helping mum out. Just because she hid it doesn't mean it still doesn't hurt her. Maybe if we knew what's going on then we'd be able to help her out."

Olivette stops dead in her tracks. Her brother stops and turns slightly. His green eyes looking to his sister. He tilts his head slightly, raising a brow.

"Her kidnapper is in prison Ash. There's not much else we can do. It's not like we can make her forget them," Olivette speaks through her teeth. Asher looks down. His hair falling slightly falling into his eyes. "Even going through mum's stuff is bringing up old wounds she's tried to forget. That's why she's never told us. Don't you think she would have if it mattered?"

"How do we know it doesn't? Mum disappears for a day once a week since we were babies Olivette. Haven't you noticed? Everlynn comes to babysit so mum can leave. Sure this last time was different. She actually went somewhere. But... There's more to this. I can feel it and if it means lying to mum, rather withholding stuff from her like she has us then I'm more than okay with that if we can find a way to help her. She's our mother. She's given us everything for the past 15 years. We can try and help her with something."

"So you chose the most hard part of her past to try and what? Give her closure? I don't get it. I know she's..." Olivette pauses and shakes her head. Her words die off and she begins walking. Asher squints his eyes at his sister walking after her.

"Know she's what?" Asher asks, trailing beside his sister. His green eyes not leaving her. He stares at her side profile as the girl stares at the gravel beneath them. The sounds of the rocks crack and shake beneath their boots. It's weird wearing shoes to them. They always ran around barefoot. It was their thing ever since they were kids. But they knew when to wear them to help also protect them.

"It doesn't matter. Let's just keep walking." The girl's shoulders rise then fall. Asher stares his sister before slowly looking away and looking ahead. The trees around them barely looked like trees. The sky was lit up only by the stars tonight. The moon no where to be seen. Asher bites the corner of his lip wanting to look at his sister, to stop her, to stop the both of them but lets it slip from his lips instead.
