Key Five: Prey:

The bite still stung on his wrist. Allen had to take in mouthfuls of air to cope. It had been hours since the wolf demon bit him. The angel awoke to a burning sensation on his skin. The bite mark was glowing in the darkness. He panicked when he first saw it. Then he noticed something else.

Allen took a listen around him. Nothing. The air around him was so quiet. The hounds were gone. Relief washed over him. He was safe. But now, he still had another problem.

"How do I get out of here?" he asked.

The rain had stopped by now. There was no one out on the streets. That could be a double-edged sword. It was good he couldn't see that wolf demon anywhere. Allen shivered as he remembered what he had to do to get that mark on his right wrist.

The boy winced in pain. His skin felt like it was on fire. The angel took in a slow breath.

"Fuck." Allen took a seat on the sidewalk. He closed his eyes and breathed in slowly. Damn it. The angel looked down at his wrist. She was going to make him pay for this further down the line, wasn't she? He would hate to see how that was going to play out. Allen shook his head. No! Don't think about that! Try to get out of this city! Keep trying no matter what it takes!

Allen closed his eyes and took another breath. Suddenly, he froze. He couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. The angel tried to look like he was searching the scene around him. Nothing to the left. Nothing to the right. Straight forward? Allen spotted a small closed market stall in front of him.

And there they were.

Three black cats. On the surface, they looked normal. The angel shivered. They were staring at him. One of them let out a low meow. Allen rose to his feet. Okay, it was time to go. The angel forced himself to turn away and start walking away.

Where was he now? Allen didn't think about that until now. There were no cats around, that was for sure. The hounds hadn't found him either. Allen was back to his main problem. How was he going to get out of this city?

The angel frowned to himself. He rubbed the back of his head. Allen needed a layout of the land. It didn't help that the buildings all looked the same. He couldn't make mental notes of anything that stood out. If only there was some way to...

Allen winced at the burning sensation on his wrist. The bite went almost to the bone. It was a miracle she didn't bite his hand off. Aside from the burn, it didn't hurt him in any way. That wasn't the only thing he had to worry about.

She's following him. He just knew it. At the moment, he couldn't feel her anywhere. The angel shook his head. He wasn't going to fall for her tricks. She was a wolf-demon after all. Who's to say she wouldn't betray him in some fashion that would screw him over in the end? The angel wasn't going to take any chances. Allen sucked in a mouthful of air.

"I will get out of here," he said under his breath.

Turns off, the wolf demon was going to be the least of his worries.

The trouble with being a soul out in the open like this is that you have an automatic target on your back. Allen was quick to learn this. But what else could he do? Road and Aizen have him trapped here. The angel couldn't figure out how they managed to get the jump on him. He had been so guarded. This was his space to go when he needed to get away during the worst of it. Now, Road was determined to take that away from her.

The angel froze when he thought that he heard footsteps behind him. He looked around but no one was there. Still, the angel would not be fooled. It was all a matter of acting tough. He couldn't let these monsters see him afraid. He told himself that he could get through this.

"I don't belong here," Allen said under his breath. Not in this warped version of his escape. He decided to turn that into his mantra to keep himself sane. Keep telling himself, "I don't belong here" and ignoring the invisible eyes.

Now if he could just figure out where the hell he was going.

That's when he heard another low meow.

Allen froze in his tracks. He tried not to think about it. This had to be another one of her tricks. He swore to himself that he wasn't going to fall for it. The angel tried to well himself to start walking again.

Come on! Come on!

Why wouldn't his feet move? No part of his body would listen to him. The meowing started getting louder. No, getting closer. There was more than one now. The angel shut his eyes tightly.

No... No... No!

Meow!

Allen ripped open his eyes. There was nobody around. He could feel his insides drop. This wasn't a game anymore. Allen gritted his teeth.

"What do you want from me?!" he shouted. "Why can't you just leave me alone?!" The meowing abruptly stopped. Before Allen could tear around, a hot breath rolled down his back. His body tensed up as someone grabbed onto his chest. There was only one thing hissed into his ear that sent him further down the spiral.

"You belong to me now!"

There were no words said. Allen just froze and collapsed.

Everything went black.

When he awoke, he found himself laid out in the middle of another alley. He looked down when he felt teeth sinking into the flesh just above his foot. The angel found himself rather reluctant to look down. A small black cat was chewing at Allen's ankle. The angel smacked and kicked at the hungry little beast.

"Get off! Get off me!" he shouted. "Get off! Shoo! Shoo!" Allen finally managed to kick the hungry little creature off of his flesh. The angel sat up, panting. That little bastard bit him hard enough to draw blood. Small traces of red ran down to the top of his foot. Allen hoped that he didn't get infected with some sort of curse or disease. He looked over at the cat who was now sitting up and staring at him. Those emotionless glowing eyes stayed locked on him. Allen clicked his tongue.

"You little bastard," he muttered.

"Meow!" That damned cat hissed and ran off. Allen sighed as he pushed himself to sit up. He looked down at the wound on his ankle. Aside from the blood and the potential for disease or a curse, it didn't look too serious. Still, Allen wasn't going to take any chances. He was going to need a bandage and disinfectant. Ha! Good luck with that one. Allen counted down before struggling to get up. The pain was dull but nothing compared to what he's had to deal with on the outside with her. He desperately shook it out of his head and began walking away to look for a place to clean the wound. Maybe he could heal on his own. That's only if there wasn't a curse that came with that bite.

Speaking which, that bite from Road-Wolf started to burn his skin again. At that moment, something told Allen that he didn't have to worry about being cursed. Still, he was going to have to clean that blood from his ankle.
