Key Eight: Miann:
Allen doesn't know how much more he can take. This city was determined to grind him down into nothing. The angel had become a prisoner in his mind. Since when did Road take control? The thought terrified him. No. That can't be right. When did she get time to come in?
Allen wandered around in the empty streets. It was quiet now. Too quiet. Who was going to snare him now? The charm on his wrist was still working. The burn on his skin still hadn't left him. It wasn't as bad as the first day the wolf demon gave it to him. Still, it reminded him that she owned him. Just like out there...
Thinking about that again made him cringe.
The angel looked up when he heard the low meow of a cat. Allen's stomach dropped. Oh no...
Why did he have to look?
Six black cats were staring at him. They all sat on an empty market stall. One of them licked their paw in a menacing way. They had their eyes on him. Allen slowly started backing away.
"No..." he said. "No..." The angel was still staring at those nasty cats. They didn't have to do anything. One of them meowed loud enough to draw the attention of the hounds. Allen found himself moving faster.
"Please leave me alone."
Their hungry eyes watched his every move. Allen held his breath as he tried to look for an escape.
Suddenly, long claws ran up his back. The angel froze. Don't turn around. Don't turn around. Don't turn around.
He just had to take a look behind him.
The first thing he saw was her teeth. Big and rotted out. Sweat broke out all over Allen's body. He could just step away from this creepy old lady, right? It wasn't like she had her claws deep into him, right? Right?
Allen tried to walk forward. His feet were moving, but he wasn't going anywhere. What... What is this? He reluctantly turned his head. The old lady opened her mouth and laughed. Suddenly, Allen was yanked into thin air.
The space he was in suddenly went quiet.
Allen suddenly appeared in the darkness. It took him seconds to realize that he was floating. The angel panicked as he started to fall. His screaming was swallowed up by the void. He tried in vain to remain afloat. Allen closed his eyes and prepared for impact.
But then... nothing happened.
Allen opened his eyes and found himself slowly floating downward. Before he knew it, his feet were touching the ground. The feeling of cold marble made him shiver. The cold made the skin on his feet burn. Allen winced as he moved in place. His eyes got better adjusted to the dark. The angel found himself standing on a giant chessboard. An iron gate stood on the other side at the end. Twisted-up black hedges served as a fence around the black and white marble board. Allen tried to look tough. This was another game she was setting up to play, wasn't it? The angel took a step back and shook his head.
"You aren't going to get me this time!" he shouted. "I will not give in! Do you hear me? You can't make me play!" This prison that Road had him trapped in must have counted on him to say that. Allen tried not to look behind him when heard the giggling of a woman. A tall, shadowy black figure emerged from behind. She looked like a queen in her long tattered black dress and crown of equally black thorns. She raised her sword above his head. An army of skeletons rose up from the dust. More demented-looking pieces took form.
"Charge!" the queen screamed. The skeletons and pieces roared a battle cry. Their leader swung her sword at the angel. Allen's eyes widened as it sank in about what was going on. However, he didn't get a chance to react. The blade passed through his body and turned into smoke. The creatures all jumped him. They began clawing and scratching at his body. Little teeth sank into his flesh. Allen couldn't swat them off if he tried. A knight piece bit at his throat. Blood spilled from the angel's body. Allen fell backward as everything went black.
