Trese Anaya's Point of View
The morning after that dinner felt heavier than I expected. I was walking toward my sister's office, replaying the events of last night. I was expecting Lenore to confront me and maybe say something after the way she kept glaring at me the whole evening. Instead, she left right after dinner without saying a word.
Dale and my brother didn't even talk, contrary to what we had anticipated. Maybe because Kuya Uno was too preoccupied with business talks with the other guests. At least, progress was made, kahit papaano. Our plan is moving forward, slowly but surely.
And today, I made a decision. Since I am already too far behind in my classes, I decided to transfer schools. I had mentioned this to my sister before. I didn't want her pulling any strings for me, kahit alam kong kaya niya. Ayoko naman maging unfair. I'd rather face the consequences of my own choices. I already talked to Mordale University about transferring. I'll continue my business studies there without worrying about how much I'm behind.
As I stepped inside my sister's office, there she was. Perfect timing—Lenore was with her. Both of their attention immediately shifted to me as I walked in. Of course, last night had been a bomb. The tension from the dinner was still thick in the air, lingering like a storm that hadn't quite passed.
I could feel their eyes on me, each glance heavy with unspoken words. Ate Deuce, looked torn. She shot me a glance that said, Please, not today. But we both knew better. Meanwhile, Lenore... well, she just stared. Her eyes cold, controlled, and as usual, unreadable. But I knew her well enough to recognize the subtle signs. Last night definitely shook her, kahit hindi niya aminin.
"Trese," Ate Deuce started, her voice clipped, "I'm sure you're not here to just drop by and say hi." Her tone dripped with annoyance. "What is it this time? Another impulsive decision you want me to fix?"
"Oh no, I can fix my own shits now.."I scoffed. I replied, "Oh, sorry, naka-istorbo ba ako?" I said sarcastically, even though I knew the answer. Of course, I wasn't sorry.
"What a change. You're at school? Aral na aral ka na naman," Ate Deuce replied, matching my sarcasm.
I shrugged. "Oh no, I'm here to get my school documents so I can transfer to Mordale."
Lenore, who had been standing by the desk, finally looked at me, her expression annoyed. She's good at that—looking annoyed, irritated... affected.
"Mordale? Talaga? Their standards are much higher than here. You can't even show up to class on time sometimes, and you get absent if you wanted to too," Ate pointed out. She had a point, but it didn't matter to me. Sino ba nag-aaral dito, ako ba o siya? Ako, diba? So, ako ang masusunod.
"No one's transferring, right, Deuce?" Lenore interrupted, her voice calm but sharp. She stood up straighter, arms crossed as if she could dictate my life with a single sentence.
I smirked. "Meron. Ako na 'yon."
"No one's transferring," she repeated, this time more firmly. "No one." Halata na rin ang inis niya sa pilosopo kong sagot.
I felt my patience thinning. "I'm the one who's delayed on her studies, Miss. Sino ba ang mahihirapan dito? Ako o ikaw?" I held her gaze, my voice steady. "Desisyon." I whispered, making it clear this was my choice.
My sister butted in again. "Alam mo pala ang consequences ng pinag-gagawa mo sa buhay. This isn't just a decision; Lenore's trying to save you from making another mistake."
