Theo wasn't sure about this, but Grace had asked, and she had seemed so down lately that he hadn't been able to tell her no. He'd finally gotten his Hogwarts letter, so he'd be going to Hogwarts that coming fall. Grace had been depressed about it, so, when he said he was going out to grab some food, she'd said she wanted to come.
So they were walking amongst the vendors, eyeing all the fruits, vegetables, and baked goods. He'd stolen Grace a small brownie square, which she'd scarfed down happily, but he was thinking about having some fruit. And watermelon was in season. He had scouted the smallest one, one that wouldn't be missed and one that would be the easiest to run with.
"Can I steal it?" Grace asked far too loudly and Theo turned to cover her mouth with his hand, pulling her behind the stall quickly.
"Grace! You can't just say that!" He whispered.
"Right.. Sorry." She smiled sheepishly.
"I think it's best if you left the dirty work to me. If you get caught, they'll... I'll just do it."
"Well, I want to do something!" She complained softly.
Theo sighed, glancing around. "Um.. Be a lookout, yeah?"
She gave him an unamused look before her expression turned more determined and she nodded. "Okay!" She quickly stepped out from behind the vendor stall... And directly in front of the vendor.
"Hi! What do you have to sell?" She asked, and Theo sighed, but realized she was providing a distraction instead. The vendor seemed to hesitate, looking around at everything that was out in the open before slowly explaining each piece of fruit.
"Are they home grown?" Grace asked as Theo creeped along the other side of the stall, slowly shoving apples, peaches, and oranges in his pockets before grabbing the smallest watermelon. But in grabbing that watermelon, he accidently knocked it into a pile of cantaloupe, and they all fell to the ground, causing the vendor to spin around, catching Theo red-handed.
"Stop!" The vendor said, starting run out of the stall, but then a lemon hit him in the back of the head. Theo looked to see Grace had picked up a bit of fruit and was throwing them at the vendor. He grinned as he circled the stall, grabbing her hand and taking off with her, the vendor giving chase.
"GET BACK HERE!" The vendor snarled, but Theo and Grace were too quick, and Theo slipped down alleyways and through back gates until he was sure they lost him.
They leaned up against a brick wall panting, looking at each other before Grace started giggling madly. Her hands covered her mouth as she slid down the wall onto her backside and began to kick her feet.
Theo found himself laughing breathlessly as well, though he stayed standing, his eyes moving to the people around them to make sure no one was looking for them.
"That was so fun!" She said breathlessly once she was done laughing. "Can we do it again?"
"No, not... not for a few days," Theo panted. "They'll be on the look out for you at the very least. He didn't get a good look at me I don't think, but just in case, we'll have to lay low."
Grace nodded, as if it made sense.
"You... Were just supposed to be a look out," he told her, looking down at her and she grinned back up at him.
"But I did good?"
Theo gave her a hard look until her grin faltered before grinning himself, putting a hand on the top of her head. "You did great."
