Jim approached Adrian with an easy, confident stride, his eyes glinting with amusement despite the rain pouring down around them. As he drew closer, his lips curled into a smirk. "Are you following me?" he teased, his voice low but playful.
Adriana blinked, taken aback by the question. "Excuse me? Am I following you?" She scoffed lightly, shaking her head. "I should be asking you that question."
Jim chuckled, clearly entertained by her reaction. "If I remember correctly, I live around here. You don’t."
"Oh, well, maybe I wanted to come here," she said with a slight shrug.
He raised an eyebrow, feigning disbelief. "So, you're following me."
"I'm not following you," she insisted, her tone a little annoyed now. "Trust me, if I were following you, you'd know."
He chuckled again. "Oh, yeah?"
"Yeah."
There was a moment of silence as they stared at each other, the sound of raindrops splattering the pavement around them. Jim tilted his head slightly, breaking the quiet with a question. "So, what are you doing out here?"
Adriana hesitated, not wanting to reveal the real reason she was here, so she shrugged and muttered, "I just like taking walks at night."
Jim eyed her from head to toe, clearly unimpressed by her explanation. His gaze stopped at her shoes. "You like walking in the rain... in heels... at 2 a.m.?" His tone carried a hint of disbelief as he continued, "In Brooklyn, no less, one of the sketchiest places to be at this time of night?"
She shrugged again, acting nonchalant. "The sky looks nice."
Jim glanced up at the dark, cloud-covered sky as if trying to see what she was talking about. He didn’t buy it, but he decided to let it slide. "You waiting for the bus?" he asked, his voice now more casual.
