"Kacey get up." A familiar voice said as they shook me.

I groaned and sat up, "What?!"

"You weren't at school today?" My mom stood with her arms crossed over her chest.

"I'm sorry it was just once I left the house I immediately didn't feel safe and I was scared and started to get light headed. So I came back home." I immediately lied.

My mom sighed, "I knew I shouldn't have let you go to school."

"It's so scary out there mom." I whispered, apart of me was genuinely scared.

She kissed my forehead, "I love you, you can go back in three days okay?"

I nodded and smiled, "Thanks mom, I love you too."

My mom walked out my room and closed the door behind her. I immediately jumped out of bed and walked into my bathroom. I looked in the mirror and pulled at the bags under my eyes. I sighed and walked back into my room, falling on my bed.

There was a knock on my door I huffed and got up to get it but was immediately pushed up against the wall, with a hand over my mouth. Oliver's body was pressed against mine, I tried shoving him off but he wouldn't budge. I didn't like how close he was.

"Make them go away." He whispered and took his hand off my mouth.

"Who is it?" I called.

"Bryce, mom wants to know if your hungry." My brother said.

"No, I'm gonna take another nap cause I'm still tired."

"Okay I'll tell mom to put your food in the mircowave."

"Alright."

I heard his footsteps lead into his room and Oliver stepped away from me. I immediately locked my door and stared at him dumbfounded.

"Why are you here!?" I whispered harshly.

"You mean why are we here?" Kyle asked stepping out the bathroom.

"Both of you are here!?"

"Look, the Black Knights are trying to figure out where you live and we can't afford for you to die so our boss sent us to prevent anything going down." Oliver explained.

"Your boss sent you guys here? I'm not even apart of your gang yet and I already have backup?" I asked confused.

"Who knows, maybe you're really useful to us. Of course we'll never know that if you're dead." Kyle stated as he sat down on my bed.

I sighed, "I just want to be left alone."

"Afraid that won't happen." Oliver shrugged.

"This is not happening." I mumbled to myself.

"Oh but it is." Kyle said.

"Where are you guys going to sleep?" I asked suddenly.

Oliver pointed at the floor.

I ran a hand through my hair, "Fine, okay just wait here and I'll get blankets from the guest room."

I slipped out the door and tiptoed into the guest room, stole some blankets and pillows and ran back into my room. I threw the stuff at them and Kyle fell off the bed. I stifled a laugh, wow, why did it feel weird to laugh all of a sudden? She felt like she had to prove herself around them and needed them to see her serious side.

"Make yourself comfortable." I told them.

After Kyle and Oliver made they're little bed on the floor they pulled out their guns and set them on my dresser.

"What the hell?!" I nearly screamed.

Kyle looked at her, "The whole point of us coming here was to keep you alive and we can't do that without our," He paused, "equipment."

"You can't just leave them on my dresser what if my mom walks in?" I asked.

"Your door is locked." Oliver pointed out.

"Shut up." I mumbled and fell back.

Kyle and Oliver kicked off their shoes and lied down on the floor, getting comfortable.

I leaned over and turned off my light and laid back down. In two minutes I could here light snoring and pressed my pillow over my face to try to muffle the sound.

"Having fun?" Kyle's voice rang.

"No." I whispered.

"You've been sleeping this whole day?" He asked.

"Yeah....I'm a very tired person, very little things excite me."

"Nothing excites me so I hear where your coming from."

I turned on my side so I could get a glimpse of him in the dark. He was on his back staring at the ceiling.

"I mean doesn't being in a gang excite you?" I asked.

"Why would that excite me? It's dangerous and all types of scary everyone in a gang knows that." He said.

"Okay well you obviously aren't trying to get out of it." I rolled her eyes.

"There is no getting out of it at all. You try and the moment they see you on the streets they shoot you." He explained.

"Why'd you get involved then?"

"Why did you pick up a gun and start shooting yesterday?" He asked quickly.

I was silent for a moment, "It seemed like the right decision at the moment."

"How did it feel to take someone's life like that?"

That's when it really hit me, I took someone's life. This wasn't a video game, that person isn't coming back to life they're really dead. All those people I shot they're no where near alive and never will be, they're stuck in an eternal sleep and it was all my doing. Yet at the same time I felt powerful. I was capable of taking someone's life and not feeling guilty to the point of wanting to kill myself.

"It was horrible," I stopped for a minute, "but it also felt so amazing, it was like power and adrenaline was all I felt in those moments I was pulling back the trigger."

"There's no going back now kid." He mumbled.

"It can't be that bad."I tried to lie to herself.

"You really think that after what you saw today and yesterday? They tried shooting at you and didn't stop and they're not going to stop until your 6 feet under the ground." He told me.

"Well that's reassuring." I said sarcastically.

"There's no sugar coating shit."

"Harsh."

He laughed bitterly, "It gets worse."

Everything was silent and I had a feeling we were both about to fall asleep before I spoke again.

"Thank you." I mumbled.

He groaned, "What?"

"I wouldn't be breathing if it weren't for you."

"Goodnight."

Those were the last words we spoke before we fell asleep to the sound of Oliver's light snoring.
