Chapter 15- Third Wheel

"Hey!" Noah greeted us, eyes alight with happiness. He was turning out to be one of those perpetually happy people, the kind whose face is rarely unsmiling. I was glad Spencer had introduced us. He seemed like the only member of Spencer's family that actually liked me.

"What are you doing here?" He asked, glancing between Spencer and I with a slightly smug smile.

I shook my head at him slightly. "Apparently we're going to the park?" I said uncertainly.

Spencer glanced at me. "Don't say it like that? We're going to have fun" He said.

I narrowed my eyes. "Apparently it's going to be fun" I added dryly.

Noah smiled slightly whilst Spencer ignored me. "I thought you finished about now?" He asked.

Noah looked up from wiping the bar surface. "You were right; I finish in 10 minutes"

"Fancy a kick about?" Noah added, eyeing his cousin closely.

Spencer didn't miss a beat, surprising me. "Yeah. Why not?"

At that I glanced at Spencer: "You made me skip school to watch you two play football?" I asked, a little incredulous.

Spencer chuckled. "I thought you were interested in my football" He teased.

I rolled my eyes. "Well you must be good if this is your idea of an exciting day out" I replied.

Spencer grinned cockily and Noah just smiled. "Oh I'm good, don't worry" He promised.

"Did you drive here? Or are we walking?" Noah asked.

Spencer's eyes were fixed on an area of wall behind Noah, refusing it seemed to look at him.

"Liv's driving my car" He muttered.

Noah reeled back a little in surprise, eyebrows jumping up his forehead.

"You drove his car?" Noah spluttered.

I frowned. "Yeah. What's the big deal?" I asked uncertainly.

Spencer glared at Noah pointedly, making him instantly backtrack.

"Nothing! I didn't know you could drive, that's all" He said, voice going up an octave.

"Did you know your voice goes squeaky when you're lying?" I asked.

"No it doesn't!" He cried in the same voice.

I laughed loudly. "You're an idiot" I said, glancing at Spencer. He looked like he was torn between laughter at Noah and relief that I hadn't made him tell me more than he wanted me to know.

I retrieved the keys from my pocket, studying them with more reverence than before and placed them on the bar.

"Ready to go then?" I asked quietly.

"Someone's eager" Spencer inserted.

"Oh shut up" I muttered.

Noah rolled his eyes at us. "Let me just finish up" He assured me.

The whole car journey towards the park, I kept catching Noah's smug happiness in the rear view mirror. I didn't understand what the big deal was about me driving, but something from the way he reacted made me think I should be flattered by it.
