The thing

For lunch Bruce had made me a chicken and sweetcorn sandwich, (which I ate in about five bites). I realised I shouldn't have eaten it so fast because now I have to go next door and for three hours sit with my home school teacher Miss Alice learning history. Alice is really old, I don't even know how she can still teach! Actually, she could tell me her life story and then we would of covered the Egyptians to today. When I got in the class room and sat down on the single old fashioned desk I noticed Miss Alice was nowhere to be seen. My first guess was that she passed out on the stairs up to the front door so i patently waited to hear the shuffle of her Uggs. "I hope she has fallen" I mumbled to my self just before Bruce lightly knocked on the classroom door. "Me lady, I have some news." He said as he poked his circle head around the door. "Miss Alice passed away last night and it will take about a week for us to get you a new tutor so you have the next week free." I haven't ever had a day free from miss Alice so this news was exciting but yet a bit sad that miss Alice was gone. I was ready to spend the whole day with my doll house but you can only play with dolls for so long before it gets tedious. Sitting on my toy crate looking out the window I watched my sister hang out and talk with all her friends. They were messing around with lighters and dancing around in the wind as it blew into them. I started to lose focus on them and it all went blurry; my mind went blank, my eyes were fixed on the hedge. Suddenly I saw a hand push some leaves out the way as my sister and her friends left the garden. The hand vanished in a blink then long curly hair and a leg came through the hole in the bush that I saw earlier. Before I could think about what it was I jumped off my toy chest and sprinted for the garden. The thing was obviously gone when I ran to the hole, Mindy was watching me through the window so I knew I had to distract her or I would never be able to investigate. I tried looking like I was playing around but I'm not very good at acting. I climbed up on the monkey bars but instead of swinging on them I stood up on the bars, took I deep breath, Mindy's eyes widened when she realised I little too late what I was going to do. I didn't actually want to hurt myself luckily I have had some practice fake hurting myself to get my way. I jumped at an angle so Mindy couldn't see that nothing happened, she fell for it and came running the moment my feet left the metal pole. "Stella! Stella! are you okay?" This was followed by some weird and quite terrible acting that I was hurt. "Mindy can you go get some tissue, I think I'm bleeding" I fake groaned "let me see" she tried to turn my body to check "NO!" I shouted that a bit too loud I know because she looked shocked and got up to find some tissues. The moment Mindy's hair bun was no longer to be seen I scrambled up and headed for the hedge hole. Even though I faked hurting myself I think I pulled a muscle in my thigh but I could hear Mindy's stomp of her feet coming out the kitchen door therefore I crawled through the hole and I was now standing in a wonderland of trees.

Pushing through branches and vibrant leaves I could hear Mindy shouting my name, I knew I was going to get into a lot of trouble when I got back but I need to see what this is. Whatever it was it was walking around in the most beautiful place I've ever seen, berries grow ripening under leafy cages around me, I was in awe of the size and majesty of the trees, their knotted arms rose upwards as far as my eyes could see. The orchestra of birds I could hear from sang throughout each gust of wind. They were jays. Jays are the scavengers of the bird world. Their cruel, corvid eyes are always on the lookout for a heart-beating meal. In the winter they raid squirrel stores for their nuts, I've seen them from my enclosed bedroom window before. They drifted across my vision in a flash of pink and dark black. The morning stars peeped down on me like silver guardians, glinting and simmering. All around me wild basil was growing freely on the clumpy, mossy mattress of the floor. I desided to venture deeper into the tangled heart of this emerald woods, hoping it would reveal its secrets. The branches became thick and lush creating an arch of fairytale green above my head then shuffling noises came from deep in the roses and thorns ahead of me, I pushed passed stabbing my arms and ankles. Vines and leaves had been tied and wrapped over some big piece of metal, as I circled around i realised it was an old 1960's caravan. Half of it was rusted but you could still see the tint of salmon pink covering its body, daisy chains were looping around the rearview mirrors in a pattern back and forth, back and forth. I chipped off some of spray paint that was in the shape of a peace sign. I shuffled of to the door when something grabbed my hair; I looked up to see a girl on top of the caravan waving it around.
