It took another two days of camping out in the old bandit cave before Kirstrid was recovered enough to travel. But they spent most of that time talking about the more intimate things they'd never told each other... like fears and desires... plans for the future... and of course there was also much more kissing and cuddling... and a few proprietary boundaries may have been pushed... but they'd never admit that later.
They made it to Riften later that same week, and Kirstrid only had to threaten one thug in the street. No one gave them trouble in the tavern, but after a morning wedding at the temple Kirstrid was adamant about getting out of town instead of spending another night, and Vilkas had no complaints.
So instead of a wedding night in Riften, they spent the next week camping by and enjoying the hot-springs south of Windhelm. Then they took the long way back to Whiterun and enjoyed every inn and camping spot along the way, before they finally made it back for that bounty on the bandit chief that had started the whole trek. Fortunately they had remembered to send a letter home, so no one had started planning their funerals by then.
To everyone's dismay (except Farkas's) instead of settling down, Vilkas and Kirstrid took another bounty and set back off together. They did take several breaks and vacations over the years, but being married to and taking jobs with her best friend made even most work feel like vacations to Kirstrid. So the Harbinger and her Master at Arms did, in fact, adventure together the rest of their days.
And when Kirstrid met Tsun at the whalebone bridge again, Vilkas was still at her side, and Gormlaith, Hakon, Felldir, Ysgramor, and Kodlak, were in the feasting hall to greet them.
