Tara's POV
I entered Mehra Mansion, and an odd pain surged in my heart, bringing back old memories tied to this house.
All those memories came flooding back, as fate had placed me here again after eight years.
If only Mom were alive today, maybe I wouldn't have to face all this.
Preparations for the engagement were in full swing, but amidst the noise, I could still see my mother's memories associated with this house.
I looked around; the structure of the house had changed, but the feelings remained the same. Today, I felt suffocated here.
An odd sense of suffocation was building up. "Hey, these flowers don’t go here; put them there!" Anita's stern voice rang out.
There she was, directing the workers, and suddenly her gaze fell on me. "Tara, you’ve come! Why are you so late? Hurry up and get ready," she said as if this was all very urgent.
"Come on, Tara," Naina, who had been standing by my side, said, leading me to a room.
---
It had been an hour since I had been sitting here getting ready, and strange thoughts were swirling in my mind. I didn’t know why I felt this way.
I felt like something was about to go wrong. "Come on, Tara, you’re marrying a complete stranger you know nothing about; what could possibly go wrong?" my mind mocked me.
Before I could think further, Naina came back into my room. "Tara, they’ve arrived," she said, making my heart race even faster.
"And they’re calling for you," she added. My hands turned cold, and I nodded, getting up.
She guided me outside, where a lot of people were gathered. She took me to the stage and stood beside me. "Here she is, the bride! Where’s the groom?" Mrs. Mehra's high-pitched voice echoed in my ears.
"Here he is," a familiar yet unknown voice came, sending goosebumps down my spine. Is it his voice?
I immediately looked up at a blurry figure approaching me, and my heart stopped for a second.
"Rishabh?" I whispered, barely audible to anyone.
No, no, no!! This can't be real. The stranger I'm about to marry is none other than the one who destroyed everything in my life.
He stood next to me, my hands started to tremble. I looked directly into his eyes, which held no emotions.
I can't marry a man who made my life hell. Who took away my love. My pride.
"I'm going to have you, Tara," his words from three years ago echoed in my mind.
Today he confirmed it. "Come on, let’s exchange the rings," Mrs. Mehra's voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
I felt like there was nothing left in my body to perform these formalities. "Tara, put the ring on Rishabh," she said again, and with that, she took my hand and placed the ring on Rishabh.
An odd pain struck my chest. My eyes filled with tears. My vision started to blur as I felt Rishabh slip the ring onto my finger.
And in that moment, my eyes closed, and I fainted.
---
Rishabh's POV
I could see the anger in Tara’s eyes, the anger she had buried for so many years.
But I won't let this anger last any longer, Tara, I promise.
I put the ring on her finger; the entire hall filled with applause, but my complete focus was only on my Tara.
Her eyes turned red, and tears welled up in them. And then, Tara fainted.
I quickly scooped her into my arms. "Tara!" I screamed.
"She must have fainted from the heat; quickly take her to a room," her mother said, which I completely ignored.
I picked Tara up bridal style and rushed her to a room. I made her drink some water.
I knew Tara’s reaction would be like this, but one day she would surely understand that I was doing all this for her. I admit, I made a mistake three years ago, but it wasn't the mistake Tara thinks it is.
"You all wait outside; let her rest," her friend spoke, pulling me out of my thoughts.
Everyone started to leave. I took one last look at Tara and then left.
---
After 2 Days...
It’s been two days since our engagement, but Tara has been quiet since then. But as much as I know Tara, she isn’t one to sit in silence.
I’m sure something is going on in that sharp mind of hers, but what? It's hard to know. But it doesn’t matter; I’ll do everything I can.
Three years ago, I wanted to save Tara, and I still do. I don’t know why, but this girl just doesn’t understand.
I just fear that she might take a wrong step. I just want to protect her.
---
Tara's POV
"I will destroy him," I whispered as I sat alone in my room.
Isn’t this what he always wanted? I know, from today, I’m going to fulfill his wish.
I will marry Rishabh to ruin his life.
Yes, I, Nayantara Mehra, have decided that I will destroy his life, giving him the same pain I’ve suffered. I will take revenge for every single moment.
I won’t let go; I’ll take everything away from him just like Rishabh took everything away from me.
I will force Rishabh to hate me so much that he’ll leave me himself.
I’m coming, Rishabh, to take my revenge.
