Tonight was the night. Dolled up in her best red dress and matching heels, Alex sat on a stool at On the Rocks Bar. As she nursed a gin and tonic, light jazz played from the speakers. There were a myriad of different people there. Couples and singles of different ages and races. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a figure come up beside her.

"Is this seat taken?"

She cut her eyes towards him, glancing down at the empty stool beside her.

"No, help yourself."

She offered him a welcoming smile, and the man smiled back. After ordering a whiskey neat, he began to strike up a conversation.

"I haven't seen you around here before. First time?"

"Actually, yes. I don't usually come to this side of town."

The man took a sip of his drink before holding out his hand to her.

"I'm Weston. Pleasure to meet you."

"Alex. Same here." She returned, shaking his extended hand.

They talked for a while about the usual things people who've just met discuss. Work, family, hobbies. As the song changed, Weston stood from his seat and again offered his hand.

"Would you care to dance?"

She took one final drag off of her drink before he led her to the dance floor. It was slow, and he gently swayed her from side to side, one hand on her hip and the other on the small of her back. Her mind adrift, she flashed back to the other night when she danced with Luke. The way he held her made her feel secure in a way she'd never before experienced. As hard as she tried to stay focused and in the present, her mind kept pulling her back there. And there was nothing wrong with the guy she was dancing with tonight. He was charming, nice-looking, and a perfect gentleman. His only problem was something that was no fault of his own.

He wasn't Luke Dawson.
