It had already been a hell of a day, and it wasn't even lunchtime yet. Alex returned to her office after spending most of the morning in court. Hours earlier, Olivia had filled her in on the latest about Luke's beating. Amanda and her gambling. She just wanted to strangle her for putting one of her oldest friends in harm's way. She sometimes felt that Luke was too kind for his own good.
There was a sudden knock at the door, and who else but Amanda walked in. What in the world could she possibly want?
"Sorry to bother you," she began. "Do you have a minute?"
Alex motioned for her to sit down and she did.
"When they catch this guy...I want to testify."
Alex absent-mindedly straightened some stray papers on her desk.
"Have you identified the attacker?"
"Well, Luke said he had a mask on so I can't be exactly sure who it was."
"But you must have some idea, right?"
Alex's tone had stiffened, and Amanda had instantly picked up on it.
"I'm going to find out who it was..."
"Well, I hope for both your sakes that you're right."
Her comment hung in the air for a moment before Rollins responded.
"You've known Luke a long time, huh?"
"Over ten years."
"And you're good friends, right?"
Beginning to get annoyed with her incessant questions, Alex stood up.
"Is that all you needed?"
Amanda smirked and came to her feet.
"Yep. Thanks, counseler."
Shortly after she left, there was another knock at the door. Alex was ready to pull her hair out but immediately softened when she saw who stepped in.
Luke.
"Hi! Are you back?"
They greeted each other with a gentle embrace.
"Not yet. I had to come in for my reprimand."
Alex cocked her head in confusion..
"Here, have a seat. Can you get you something? Water?"
Luke shook his head and sat across from her. He then filled her in on everything that had happened the past couple of weeks.
"I know she's your partner, Luke, but you could've gotten yourself killed. And that guy is still out there. What if he comes back to finish the job?"
"She's like my little sister. I have a responsibility to look out for her."
Alex nodded her head, knowing nothing she could possibly say would change his feelings.
"Just be careful, okay?"
"I will. I promise."
