Cornelius Fillmore had just completed his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice but was uncertain where he wanted to take it next. He could go on and become a cop, especially since he had been the Safety Patrol Commissioner at X High his junior and senior year after having initially joined the Safety Patrol in 7th grade. Likewise, he could pursue a career as a private investigator, seek to join the FBI or other Federal Investigative Unit, go into law or even social work or social justice. He just didn’t know.
About this same time, his parents had been offered the chance to spend a year on Venus. When he spoke with his parents about his indecisiveness, they offered him the chance to come with them. Their reasoning: it would get him away from everything he’d ever known and would perhaps help him reprioritize and refocus on his actual goals after trying subsistence and communal living.
While Cornelius wasn’t quite sure he believed their reasoning, he did decide that, if anything, it would give him some much needed time with his parents to reconnect. So he agreed to accompany them.
