My eyes opened to the sound of a regular, annoying beeping. It kept going on and on. Beep beep beep beep. As I began to remember the events that transpired, it sounded like the beeping was getting louder. Was Osami okay? Was I even alive?

Suddenly, my parents appeared next to me, hugging and kissing me. I tried to speak but couldn't find the strength. I was helpless against their overwhelming affection. Although I was glad I had made it back safe, a question haunted my mind. Was Osami okay?

I looked around the room frantically and saw a bandaged body across the room on a hospital bed. White hair was sticking out from the top of its head.

My parents followed my line of sight and looked back at me with a reassuring smile. My mother spoke, "Don't worry sweetie, he's okay. And so is Aunt Konya." But only them. The other man had been completely destroyed before my eyes. The awful sight of his remains wouldn't leave my mind and wouldn't for weeks.

Everything looked the same. I wasn't. I knew it was okay to take time to recover but it's not like I would've had the energy to leave my room anyways. Eventually my father began forcing me to go to school at least once a week. It would've been bad if I fell far behind the other students in my training but I honestly didn't care anymore.

I saw Abe and Miya. I tried to force a smile but it quickly left when Miya rushed to hug me. She was crying. I asked her, "Are you okay?"

Miya loosened her hug and looked at me in the eyes. "My father..."

I wasn't sure why but my heartbeat began to race.

"My father died, cause he's an Anbu ninja. He was very strong..."

I wanted to clench my chest but I didn't want to worry them.

"Uhm. He was in the squad they found you with. I just wanted to know-"

The words and tears came out effortlessly. "I'M SORRY!"

Miya's dad died because of me.

I wasn't supposed to be there.

It was my fault.

Mine.

MINE.

MINE.
