Emily and Alex stepped into the cozy pottery studio, the air thick with the earthy scent of clay and creativity. They scanned the room for Sarah, their hearts pounding with anticipation. After gathering information about her weekend pottery class, they hoped this would be the perfect place to confront her without the pressures of school or prying eyes.

As they spotted Sarah sitting at a potter's wheel, her hands skillfully working the clay, Emily's stomach twisted with a mix of nerves and determination. "There she is," Emily whispered, her pulse quickening. "Let's go."

"Wait," Alex said, gripping her arm. "Are you sure about this? What if she doesn't want to talk?"

"We have to try. We need answers about Jules," Emily insisted, pushing her way forward.

As they approached, Sarah looked up, surprise flashing across her face. Her expression quickly shifted to apprehension. "What are you guys doing here?" she asked, her voice tense.

"We just wanted to talk," Emily said, trying to keep her tone light. "It's about Jules."

At the mention of Jules' name, Sarah's body tensed. "I don't want to talk about it," she snapped, her eyes darting away.

"Sarah, please," Emily pleaded, desperation creeping into her voice. "It's important. We need to understand what happened."

"I said no!" Sarah exclaimed, abruptly standing up and turning to leave.

Emily's heart raced. "Wait! Please, Sarah!" she called out, chasing after her. She reached out and grabbed Sarah's arm, stopping her in her tracks. "Just listen for a second. This is for Jules' sake. We might be able to help her, and we can't do that without you."

Sarah turned to face Emily, her expression a mix of fear and frustration. "Why would I help you? You're the last person I want to talk to right now!"

"Because we're both hurting," Emily responded, her voice softening. "I know you care about Jules. We need to know what you saw, what happened at that party. It could be the last chance to do something for her."

Sarah hesitated, her defenses wavering. "I don't want to get involved," she muttered, glancing around as if searching for an escape.

"Linda told you to stay away from me, didn't she?" Emily said, a hint of sadness creeping into her voice. "I get it. But I'm not the enemy here. We're trying to figure this out, together."

"Your mom is right," Sarah said, her voice trembling. "You shouldn't be dragging me into this."

"I'm not dragging you anywhere," Emily insisted, frustration boiling beneath the surface. "But if you don't talk to us, we won't have any answers. You were Jules' best friend. You have to know something."

Sarah's shoulders slumped as she took a deep breath, her resolve beginning to crack. "I... I don't know if I can. What if I say the wrong thing?"

"Just tell us what you remember," Alex chimed in gently. "We're here to listen, not to judge."

Sarah stared at the ground, the weight of their words sinking in. After a long pause, she finally nodded. "Fine. Just... don't expect too much. It's all pretty messed up."

The conversation flowed awkwardly at first, but slowly, Emily and Alex began to steer it towards the topic they really wanted to explore. "We've been talking about Jules a lot," Emily said, watching Sarah closely. "You were really close to her, right?"

Sarah stiffened at the mention of Jules' name. "Yeah, I guess she was... a good friend," she said slowly, her eyes dropping to the clay in front of her.

Emily could sense the walls going up. "We were hoping to ask you about her," she pressed on, determined. "Do you think we could talk about it?"

Sarah hesitated, her fingers pausing on the clay. "Why now? Why here?" she asked, suspicion creeping into her voice.

Alex exchanged a glance with Emily, silently urging her to take the lead. "We just want to understand what happened to Jules," Emily said softly. "There's so much we don't know. We thought maybe you could help us fill in the gaps."

"I don't know if I can," Sarah replied, her voice shaky. "It's really hard to talk about."

"Please," Emily urged, her heart racing. "We're not here to blame you. We just want to know what Jules went through. We want to understand."

After a long pause, Sarah looked around, clearly uncomfortable. "I guess... I guess I could talk for a bit," she finally relented, her voice barely above a whisper. "But I'm not sure how much help I'll be."

"Anything you can share would be helpful," Alex said, leaning forward. "We just want to honor her memory."

Emily took a deep breath, her heart pounding. "What was the last time you saw her? Can you tell us about it?"

Sarah hesitated, her gaze dropping to the clay in front of her. "It was at a frat party," she finally admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "She... she got humiliated."

Emily exchanged a glance with Alex, who leaned in closer, encouraging Sarah to continue. "What happened?"

Sarah took a shaky breath, her fingers fidgeting with the clay. "They told her the dress code was a super hot bikini. But everyone else was just wearing normal clothes."

Emily's stomach twisted at the thought of Jules being subjected to that kind of ridicule. "That's awful," she murmured, trying to hide her anger.

"Yeah, it was," Sarah continued, her voice trembling. "Everyone was screaming nasty things at her, saying stuff about her sister... you know, calling her a prostitute. It was... it was just cruel."

Emily felt a wave of sadness wash over her. "What did Jules do?"

"She just... she ran out," Sarah said, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "I remember seeing her tears streaking down her cheeks. She was shaking and trembling, fighting to stand up and get home."

The room felt heavy with Sarah's words, each one a reminder of the pain Jules had endured. Emily's heart ached for her sister, and the guilt bubbled up inside her once more. "Did you try to help her?"

Sarah looked away, guilt etched on her face. "I didn't know what to do. I just... I was scared. Everyone was so loud, and I felt powerless."

Alex nodded, trying to understand. "But you were her friend, right? You were supposed to be there for her."

"I know," Sarah replied, her voice cracking. "And I regret it every day. I should have stood up for her."

Emily watched Sarah closely, searching for any signs of genuine remorse. The quiet ache of her sister's absence surrounded them like a dark cloud. "Did you ever talk to her after that night?"

Sarah shook her head, her expression forlorn. "No, I didn't. I thought she needed space, but now... I wish I had reached out."

The atmosphere shifted, heavy with the weight of unspoken truths. Emily and Alex exchanged glances, sensing they were peeling back the layers of Sarah's guilt, revealing the scars left by their shared past with Jules.

"We just want to understand what happened," Emily said softly, her heart aching for the girl who had been so close yet felt so far away. "Jules deserved better."

"I know she did," Sarah whispered, tears spilling down her cheeks. "And I'm so sorry."

In that moment, the pottery studio felt like a sacred space, a place where they could finally confront the pain they had all been running from. Together, they began to weave the story of Jules, one filled with both heartache and hope for redemption.
